A night of Halloween celebrations turned into a nightmare in Dallas when gunfire erupted three times across a packed entertainment district, leaving four people dead and at least 15 others injured in just 75 minutes.
The violence unfolded early Sunday, November 1, in Deep Ellum, a popular nightlife destination known for its crowded bars, restaurants and live music venues. What began as a festive Saturday night quickly descended into chaos as frightened revelers fled, emergency crews rushed to help victims and police shut down several streets.
According to Dallas police, the first shooting occurred around 12:20 a.m. in the 2600 block of Elm Street, where five people were reportedly shot in a convenience store parking lot. Just 45 minutes later, another shooting erupted in the 2600 block of Main Street. A third followed at approximately 1:35 a.m. along South Crowdus Street, only blocks away.
At one of the locations, a man allegedly warned, “Hey, I’m gonna start shooting,” before opening fire, according to police sources who spoke with local station WFAA. Three people were killed at that scene, although investigators have not publicly confirmed the reported warning or established a motive.
Witness Naturi Sayles, who was visiting Deep Ellum for the first time, told WFAA that the atmosphere had been enjoyable until the shooting began. She described people suddenly running for safety and said she ducked for cover as the situation spiraled out of control.
By Sunday morning, authorities had confirmed 19 victims across the three scenes, including four fatalities. The number of injured could increase because some victims made their own way to nearby hospitals.
On Monday, the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office identified two of those killed as Kaniesa Scott, 21, and Unique Elise Benjamin, 28. The identities of the remaining victims had not been publicly confirmed in the latest reports.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said additional officers had already been deployed to Deep Ellum in anticipation of heavy Halloween crowds. In one instance, officers were less than two blocks away when they heard gunfire and rushed toward the scene. One officer was credited with helping revive an injured victim.
Despite the increased police presence, investigators are now confronting a complicated series of shootings with no confirmed connection between them.
“We have no information that they are related,” Comeaux said, emphasizing that detectives were still working to reconstruct what happened.
Several people were taken into custody for questioning, but authorities had not publicly announced charges against anyone responsible for the shootings. Police said suspects remained outstanding as detectives searched for surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses.
The violence has also renewed concerns about safety in Deep Ellum. In May, 26-year-old security officer Joseph Gray was fatally shot while reportedly attempting to break up a fight in the neighborhood. A separate shooting that same night left five people injured.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson condemned the latest bloodshed, calling the violence unacceptable and stressing that protecting residents and visitors must remain the city’s top priority.
For a neighborhood famous for its nightlife, the Halloween tragedy has left grieving families and difficult questions about how three shootings could unfold within blocks of one another despite a heightened police presence.
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the shootings or captured video of the incidents to contact Dallas police Sgt. Boz Rojas at 214-671-3598.

More sadness happening in our present time, and Halloween should really be celebrated as we do Christmas and New Year’s Eve because it is the day before All Saint’s Day. It should not be a day of horror or monsters. I would imagine most older human beings do not remember so much horror when we were younger and sadly St. Mother Theresa said this would happen when we allowed people to kill their children through abortion.
“Mother Teresa viewed abortion as a moral and humanitarian crisis, not merely a political or religious issue. She emphasized that every child is a gift of God and that society must protect the unborn, warning that allowing abortion undermines respect for all human life. She stated, “If a mother can kill her own child in her own womb, what is left for you and for me to kill each other?” highlighting the broader societal consequences of devaluing life” catholiconline.news
