Former President Bill Clinton was discharged from MedStar Georgetown University Hospital on Tuesday morning after receiving treatment for the flu. Clinton, 78, had been admitted on Monday with a fever but is now recovering at home, according to his deputy chief of staff, Angel Ureña.
“President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu,” Ureña wrote in a post on X. “He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received. He sends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all.”
Clinton’s hospitalization prompted an outpouring of support from across the political spectrum, with many expressing concern for the former president’s health. A figure known for his resilience, Clinton has faced several health challenges in recent years, including a hospitalization in 2021 for a urinary tract infection that led to sepsis.
The 42nd president has remained active in public life since leaving office in 2001, frequently championing causes such as global health and disaster relief through the Clinton Foundation. His most recent appearance was at a charity event earlier this month, where he spoke about the importance of bipartisan cooperation in tackling national and global issues.
Medical experts note that influenza can pose significant risks for older adults, particularly those with preexisting health conditions. Clinton’s prompt treatment underscores the importance of seeking medical care for flu symptoms, especially during the peak of flu season.
As the holiday season continues, Clinton’s release comes as a relief to his family, friends, and supporters. Further updates on his recovery are not expected at this time.
