Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a prominent figure in the Kennedy family legacy, is facing accusations of voter fraud in New York. This comes as he awaits confirmation hearings for the pivotal role of Health and Human Services Secretary under Donald Trump’s administration.
The allegations stem from a complaint filed with the New York Board of Elections by watchdog group Accountable. US, asserting that Kennedy voted by mail in the 2024 general election using an address deemed ineligible by a New York court.
A spokesperson for Accountable.US stated, “This is not just a paperwork error. Violating election law undermines the democratic process and raises questions about Kennedy’s suitability for public office.”
At the center of the controversy is Kennedy’s claimed residence in Katonah, a small town 45 miles north of New York City. Public records show Kennedy registered to vote using the address 84 Croton Lake Road. However, in August 2024, a New York judge ruled Kennedy did not legally reside there, invalidating his presidential candidacy in the state.
Kennedy testified that he rented a room from a childhood friend but failed to convince the court. The decision has now cast doubt on the legality of his voter registration and ballot submission.
The complaint highlights a New York statute stating that knowingly providing a false residence for voter registration is a felony. Accountable.US is calling for a thorough investigation, noting, “This isn’t just about residency—it’s about accountability for our leaders.”
Kennedy’s mail-in ballot, sent from the contested Katonah address, was received by the Westchester County Board of Elections on November 2, 2024, just days before the election.
These allegations come at a critical time for Kennedy, as he prepares for Senate confirmation hearings. His nomination to head Health and Human Services, one of the government’s most influential departments, has already sparked debate.
Republican strategist Daniel Franklin remarked, “If this complaint gains traction, it could derail Kennedy’s confirmation. Even the hint of voter fraud is a political grenade.”
The accusations may embolden critics during the hearings, with potential felony charges casting a shadow over Kennedy’s integrity and judgment.
The New York Board of Elections has acknowledged receipt of the complaint. According to their process, the Division of Election Law Enforcement will review the allegations, assign a case number if a violation seems plausible, and initiate a confidential investigation.
Legal experts believe this inquiry could take months. Meanwhile, Kennedy’s team has remained tight-lipped, with his attorney declining to comment.
The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with American politics. Yet this controversy puts RFK Jr. in an unenviable position, threatening to overshadow his family’s storied legacy.
