The Kennedy dynasty is once again caught in the crossfire of scandal — and this time, it’s over a secret daughter said to be the hidden heir to an $85 million fortune.
RadarOnline.com has uncovered that William Kennedy Smith — nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy — fathered a child in the 1990s whose existence has quietly lingered in the background of one of America’s most famous families.
The revelation comes after a five-year legal war over the estate of Smith’s late mother, Jean Kennedy Smith, who reportedly listed the mystery granddaughter as a beneficiary in her will.
Court records identify the woman as Kate C. Squier, born in 1997 to Kathleen Ann McMahon, and described as the “open secret” daughter of William Kennedy Smith. Squier now works as a publicist in Washington, D.C., and, according to insiders, is the spitting image of her father — though she uses her mother’s current last name and has stayed far from the Kennedy spotlight.
Her father, now 65, infamously stood trial in 1991 for rape charges stemming from a night at the Kennedy compound in Palm Beach — a case that captivated the nation before his eventual acquittal. Years later, he pivoted to humanitarian work, founding the Chicago-based nonprofit Physicians Against Landmines.
“Kate is an open secret among the Kennedys,” one insider claimed. “The whole situation caused a lot of pain in the family, especially for Jean.”
When Jean Kennedy Smith passed away in 2020 at age 92, her will reportedly included Kate Squier as one of the beneficiaries — a quiet acknowledgment of her connection to the clan. But since then, the estate has become a legal battlefield.
Court filings show that William borrowed millions from his mother before her death, leading to a years-long tug-of-war with estate executors Carter Hood and Charles J. O’Byrne, a former Catholic priest.
In 2024, a New York judge ruled William must repay $1.2 million on a disputed $3.6 million family loan — though the fight continues, with appeals pending.
“It’s telling that Jean chose outsiders as executors instead of her own sons,” a family insider said. “It was a decision that spoke volumes.”
As for Kate, her online footprint has mostly gone dark since the story broke. Her LinkedIn describes her as a “passionate communications professional” working at the intersection of entertainment and media — though there’s no trace of her famous father on her social media.
The Kennedys have remained tight-lipped, and William himself has declined to comment, instead referring press inquiries to his lawyer, who blasted the story as “false and defamatory.”
Still, the whispers persist — and for America’s most famous political dynasty, another chapter of secrecy, scandal, and family tension appears to be unfolding once again.
