The Village People Set to Perform at Trump Inauguration Celebrations

The iconic disco group, The Village People, will headline several events during the inauguration celebrations for Donald Trump, marking a notable intersection of pop culture and politics. The announcement came directly from Victor Willis, the band’s frontman, in a candid Facebook post on Monday.

“We know this won’t make some of you happy,” Willis acknowledged. “However, we believe music should transcend politics.”

Trump’s affinity for The Village People’s hits, particularly “Y.M.C.A.” and “Macho Man,” was a hallmark of his campaign rallies. These songs often served as the backdrop for his signature dance moves, energizing his supporters. Now, the band is poised to bring their unmistakable sound to the inauguration stage.

“Our song ‘Y.M.C.A.’ is a global anthem that, we hope, can help bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign,” Willis said. He admitted their preferred candidate lost in the election but emphasized the importance of unity. “It’s time to use music to heal and unify,” he added.

While “Y.M.C.A.” was originally celebrated as a nod to gay culture, Willis has championed its broader appeal. He’s clear about one thing: the song is for everyone. “It’s about fun and celebration,” he said, rejecting what he views as narrow interpretations.

Willis also issued a warning to media outlets. Starting in January, his wife plans to pursue legal action against any organization falsely referring to “Y.M.C.A.” as exclusively a gay anthem. “We’re taking back the narrative,” he declared.

The Village People’s name and costumes were inspired by Greenwich Village in the 1970s, known for its vibrant gay culture. However, Willis, the group’s only original heterosexual member, has consistently emphasized the universal appeal of their music.

The band is scheduled to perform at several events, including the high-profile Turning Point USA Inaugural-Eve Ball, hosted by conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The event promises to attract key figures from politics and entertainment, cementing the Village People’s place in this historic celebration.

In a time of cultural divides, Willis is optimistic about the role of music in bridging gaps. “Music is the great uniter,” he said. “And that’s exactly what this country needs right now.”

  1. Not gay, but I like that these guys are performing and not falling into the vile, bitter, anti-conservative stance of the left. Kudos to them!!
