Shielding Biden: The Media’s Biggest Cover-Up Finally Exposed

The mainstream media’s long-running defense of President Joe Biden is finally coming under scrutiny. For years, major news outlets shielded the 46th president, downplaying concerns about his cognitive decline and suppressing stories about his family’s questionable financial dealings. Now, as insiders speak out, the extent of the cover-up is becoming undeniable.

A Coordinated Effort to Protect Biden

As early as 2019, signs of Biden’s mental decline were apparent, yet largely dismissed. Former Politico reporter Marc Caputo recently revealed that his editors killed a story about a tax lien on Hunter Biden stemming from his work with Ukrainian energy giant Burisma. The report, based on opposition research from a Democratic rival campaign, should have been routine political coverage. Instead, it was buried without explanation.

“I wrote what should have been a straightforward story about Hunter Biden’s tax issues and how they could haunt his father’s campaign,” Caputo explained on the Somebody’s Gotta Win podcast. “The editors just shut it down. No reason given.”

By October 2020, Biden was the Democratic nominee, and the stakes were higher. When The New York Post broke the Hunter Biden laptop story—detailing emails that suggested questionable financial dealings involving his father—the media establishment went into overdrive to discredit it.

“I went to my editor and said, ‘We have to cover this,’” Caputo recalled. “I was told in no uncertain terms: ‘Do not write about the laptop, do not tweet about the laptop.’”

Instead, Politico published a widely circulated article headlined Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say. The article cited a letter from 51 intelligence officials claiming the laptop had the “hallmarks of a Russian intelligence operation.” Biden himself used this letter to deflect during a presidential debate against Donald Trump, dismissing the laptop’s contents as Russian propaganda.

The Suppression Went Beyond Just One Story

It wasn’t just Politico. Leaked audio from CNN meetings, obtained by Project Veritas, showed executives explicitly instructing staff to ignore the laptop story.

“Obviously, we’re not running with the New York Post story right now on Hunter Biden,” CNN’s then-political director David Chalian stated in an October 14, 2020, conference call.

Two days later, CNN President Jeff Zucker reinforced the directive: “I don’t think we should be repeating unsubstantiated smears just because the right-wing media suggests we should.”

Meanwhile, prominent CNN anchors echoed the talking points.

“There’s a lot about this story that does not add up,” Brian Stelter told viewers. “For all we know, these emails were made up.”

Jake Tapper dismissed the allegations outright: “The right-wing is going crazy with all sorts of allegations about Biden and his family. Too disgusting to repeat.”

Big Tech’s Role in the Censorship

The suppression extended beyond the media. Social media giants actively blocked New York Post articles about the laptop. Twitter locked the Post’s account for two weeks. Facebook suppressed the story’s reach, with a company executive later admitting they were instructed to do so based on FBI warnings about “potential misinformation.”

Covering for Biden’s Cognitive Decline

After Biden took office, the protective media coverage expanded beyond Hunter Biden. By spring 2021, The Wall Street Journal reported that White House staff had begun noticing “good days and bad days” when it came to the president’s mental acuity.

Yet, the media refused to acknowledge the problem. ESPN’s Sage Steele revealed that when she interviewed Biden in March 2021, executives tightly controlled the process.

“I was told, ‘You will say every word that we write out, you will not deviate from the script,’” Steele said in an interview. “No follow-ups. Nothing.”

Even Biden-friendly interviewers privately expressed concern. Two journalists, speaking anonymously to Fox News Digital, admitted they noticed Biden struggling.

“He was careful not to go on at length with answers,” one said. “It was clear he was trying to edit himself—probably coached to keep responses short.”

The Breaking Point: 2024 Debate Disaster

For years, media outlets parroted White House talking points that Biden remained sharp. That narrative crumbled after the June 2024 presidential debate, where Biden’s fumbling performance shocked viewers.

Suddenly, the same journalists who had insisted Biden was fine were forced to change their tune. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow attempted damage control, absurdly assuring viewers, “He still rides a bike.” Meanwhile, The New York Timesframed the issue as “Republicans pounce.”

However, when Hollywood star George Clooney—who had recently hosted a Biden fundraiser—admitted Biden was “the same man we saw in the debate,” the floodgates opened.

Journalists Now Express Regret—Too Little, Too Late?

Months after Biden stepped aside, New York Times correspondent Peter Baker conceded, “We probably need to do some soul-searching on how we covered Biden’s age.”

Laura Barrón-López of PBS NewsHour admitted, “We weren’t relentlessly covering Biden’s age, even though voters brought it up constantly.”

But for millions of Americans, these admissions are too little, too late. The truth about Biden was there all along—suppressed, ignored, and dismissed to protect a political agenda.
