Prince Harry ‘Photobombs’ Meghan Markle’s Selfie at the Invictus Games

Prince Harry couldn’t resist the spotlight.

While Meghan Markle and Canadian pop star Nelly Furtado shared a lighthearted backstage moment at the 2025 Invictus Games opening ceremony, the Duke of Sussex made a surprise appearance—whether invited or not.

Furtado, 46, had been recording a video selfie with Markle, 43, set to her iconic song “I’m Like a Bird.” The two smiled and posed for the camera, with Markle placing a friendly hand on the singer’s arm. But just as the moment was set, Harry, 40, strutted through the frame, staring straight into the lens with a knowing smirk.

Furtado, dressed in a fur coat over a green zip-up jacket, caught the prince’s unexpected cameo and exaggerated her reaction with wide eyes and a shocked expression. Markle, dressed in a beige jacket, turned back, laughing at her husband’s playful intrusion.

The video ended with Markle blowing a kiss at the camera, while Furtado flashed a thumbs-up, later captioning the post: “They’re beautiful, that’s for sure. 💞”

A Star-Studded Event with Deep Military Roots

Furtado was among the headlining performers at the Invictus Games’ opening ceremony at BC Place, where she belted out hits like “I’m Like a Bird.” The night’s lineup also featured pop sensations Katy Perry, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and folk singer Noah Kahan.

The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry in 2014, celebrate wounded and recovering service members from around the world. Inspired by his own experiences in Afghanistan and witnessing the U.S. Armed Forces’ Warrior Games, Harry created the event to honor those who’ve sacrificed for their countries.

“This is about resilience, about overcoming,” Harry said during his speech at the welcome reception Friday night. “The spirit of service and courage is what unites us all here today.”

Meghan, speaking before introducing her husband, added, “We are thrilled to be here, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to acknowledge someone who means so much to me—and to all of you.”

Harry then took the stage, giving Meghan a quick kiss before addressing the crowd, who gave him a standing ovation.

A Rare Joint Appearance Amid Controversy

The Invictus Games mark the couple’s first major public event together in nearly six months. Their last joint appearance was in Colombia in August, though they have been spotted separately on various engagements. Most recently, they made a brief appearance in Los Angeles for wildfire relief efforts.

However, Harry’s immigration status remains a contentious issue in the United States. The Heritage Foundation has challenged his visa approval, alleging that he may have misrepresented past drug use in his memoir Spare.

Despite legal pressure, former President Donald Trump made headlines Saturday when he stated he would not pursue Harry’s deportation. “I don’t want to do that,” Trump told The Post. “I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.”

While Harry may have sidestepped political trouble for now, his antics at the Invictus Games suggest that staying out of the limelight simply isn’t in his nature.
