GOP to Put Trump on $100 Bill?

In a bold move to commemorate former President Donald Trump’s impact on American politics, Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) is set to introduce legislation to feature Trump’s likeness on the $100 bill. The proposal, aimed at recognizing Trump’s tenure and leadership, has ignited discussions across the political spectrum.

The Proposal: Replacing Franklin with Trump

Representative Gill, a staunch Trump supporter, announced his initiative, stating that the former president’s economic and foreign policy achievements warrant a permanent place in American history.

“President Trump could have retired to a life of leisure, yet he chose to continue fighting for this country. He has tackled the border crisis, restored economic stability, and prioritized American interests abroad,” Gill told Fox News Digital.

Gill’s proposal mirrors a separate bill introduced by Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) last week, which sought to introduce a $250 bill featuring Trump’s face. Both initiatives symbolize the GOP’s commitment to cementing Trump’s legacy in tangible ways.

Historical Precedent and Challenges

If passed, this would mark the first time a major currency denomination has undergone such a redesign since 1929, when President Andrew Jackson replaced Grover Cleveland on the $20 bill. However, there are significant legal barriers to Gill’s plan. Current federal law prohibits living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency, meaning any such change would have to be delayed until at least 2029, after Trump’s departure from public office.

Since 1914, the $100 bill has prominently featured Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, a figure whose contributions to American democracy, science, and diplomacy are widely recognized. Franklin played a pivotal role in drafting the Declaration of Independence and securing French support during the Revolutionary War. Additionally, his experiments with electricity led to critical scientific advancements.

Political and Public Reaction

The proposal has garnered mixed reactions from lawmakers and the public. While many conservatives hail it as a fitting tribute to Trump’s America First policies, others question the move.

Former Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway took to X (formerly Twitter) to show support, writing, “All about the Dons: House GOP bill would put Trump’s face on $100 note. Give me a thumbs up if you support this.”

Critics, however, see the initiative as a distraction. One user, Roderick K. Duet, posted, “Can you believe they want to waste time and money on putting Trump on the $100 bill?”

Next Steps and Legislative Hurdles

Despite Republican enthusiasm, the bill faces an uphill battle in Congress. A House majority of at least 218 votes is required for passage, and bipartisan support is unlikely. Even if the measure clears the House, it must pass the Senate before reaching the president’s desk for approval.

As debates continue, the proposal underscores the ongoing effort by conservatives to enshrine Trump’s legacy in American history. Whether or not his face will ultimately replace Franklin’s remains uncertain, but the conversation alone signals Trump’s enduring influence within the Republican Party and beyond.
