Tulsi Gabbard’s Dire Warning Comes True as Islamist Regime Slaughters Christians

Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence and former congresswoman, issued a chilling warning about Syria’s trajectory during her Senate confirmation hearing earlier this year. Now, with reports of al-Qaeda-linked extremists carrying out mass executions of Alawites and Christians, her prophecy appears to be tragically unfolding.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, over 340 Alawites—a sect closely tied to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad—have been executed in recent days. Islamist militants, aligned with the newly established Syrian regime under Ahmed al-Sharaa, have also reportedly begun targeting Christian communities, forcing thousands to flee their homes in fear.

A Warning Ignored

During her confirmation hearing, Gabbard issued a stark critique of U.S. foreign policy in Syria.

“I have no love for Assad or any dictator. I just hate al-Qaeda. I hate that our leaders cozy up to Islamist extremists, calling them ‘rebels,’ as Jake Sullivan once told Hillary Clinton, ‘al-Qaeda is on our side in Syria.’”

She warned that groups once supported by past administrations as “moderate rebels” were, in fact, radical jihadists committed to terrorizing civilians. Now, the regime in Damascus is led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a successor to al-Qaeda, and its newly installed president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is a known jihadist who celebrated the 9/11 attacks.

A Wave of Terror Unleashed

Reports from within Syria paint a grim picture. Militants have been storming Alawite-majority villages, executing civilians, and looting homes. One survivor, speaking anonymously to Fox News Digital, recounted the horrifying scene:

“They called us pigs and said they would execute our children first, then the elderly. They ransacked our homes, stealing everything before killing indiscriminately.”

Among the dead is 86-year-old cleric Shaaban Mansour and his son Hussein Shaaban, both executed in the village of Sahlab. In Christian communities, the brutality continues—Greco-Levantine media reported that an entire young family, including an infant, was murdered in cold blood.

The International Response—or Lack Thereof

Despite mounting evidence of atrocities, international leaders have been hesitant to condemn Syria’s new Islamist regime. The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres met with al-Sharaa just days before the massacres, discussing potential diplomatic relations and sanctions relief.

Critics warn that this approach is dangerously naive.

“A former al-Qaeda commander doesn’t just become a democrat overnight because he puts on a suit,” said one U.S. intelligence official. “The West is turning a blind eye to jihadist terror.”

A Call for American Leadership

The question now is whether the United States will take decisive action. Former President Donald Trump has urged the U.S. to avoid deeper involvement in Syria’s conflict but also condemned the Biden administration’s policies that, he argues, set the stage for this crisis.

“The mess we’re seeing now is because Obama and Biden tried to remove Assad by backing the wrong people,” Trump stated. “Now, radical Islamists control Syria, and they’re slaughtering innocent people.”

Meanwhile, Alawite leaders are pleading for international intervention, including from the United States and even Israel. One Alawite refugee in Europe, in contact with her family still in Syria, said, “We need help. We need protection. The Islamists want to erase us.”

Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, responded forcefully, stating, “Ahmed al-Sharaa has exposed his true face: A jihadist terrorist committing horrifying acts against civilians. We will ensure Syria does not become a staging ground for attacks on Israel.”

What Comes Next?

With Islamist control tightening and atrocities mounting, the Biden administration faces a crucial test. Will America act to protect innocent civilians and prevent Syria from becoming a full-fledged terrorist state?
