Former First Lady Michelle Obama has launched her new podcast, IMO (In My Opinion), but the debut has drawn harsh criticism. The first two episodes barely totaled 62K views in 24 hours.
Michelle Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson, kicked off the project on March 10. Their episodes pulled in 47,000 and 15,000 views respectively. In comparison, California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new show hit over 743,000 views on its debut. Joe Rogan routinely draws between 500,000 and 56 million viewers per episode.
Critics on social media were quick to pounce. One user on X wrote,
“Michelle Obama’s first couple podcast episodes absolutely flopped, not even getting a combined 20,000 views in the 15 hours after posting. The comments filled with people saying ‘nobody asked for this.’ What an utter failure. Who thought this was a good idea?”
Another voice argued,
“The left thinks success can be forced. You can’t just take someone who was popular at one time and expect them to win hearts today.”
The numbers and comments leave many wondering if the former first lady can connect with today’s audience. Once seen as a beacon of change, Michelle Obama now faces a new challenge: staying relevant in a saturated media market. Her critics say that a forced media comeback just does not work.
On Instagram, Obama defended her new venture. She posted,
“There’s a lot going on in the world right now. We’re living through complicated and confusing times. In our first episode, we share stories from growing up on Euclid Avenue in Chicago to our journey in the White House.”
Podcasting remains a booming industry. Over 70 million Americans tuned in at least once a month in 2023—a figure set to rise to 110 million by 2029. Yet, Obama’s launch struggles to make a mark in this crowded space.
Conservative critics call the effort embarrassing and question its future. They warn that a legacy built in the past does not guarantee success in today’s fast-changing media world. As the debate heats up, only time will tell if IMO (In My Opinion) can overcome its rocky start.

She’s not relevant. She’s boring and out of touch.
