Amy Robach Breaks Down on Podcast Over ‘Heartbreaking’ ABC Layoffs

Former ABC anchor Amy Robach emotionally discussed the recent mass layoffs at ABC News on Monday, openly tearing up during her podcast “Amy & T.J.,” co-hosted with her partner, T.J. Holmes.

“It was devastating,” Robach said, visibly emotional. “When I heard that most of our old team from ‘GMA3’ was gone, my heart just sank. Those aren’t just colleagues; they’re family.”

Around 200 ABC News and Disney Entertainment Networks employees—about six percent of the total workforce—were laid off recently due to plummeting cable TV ratings and reduced revenue, according to The Wall Street Journal. The shift away from traditional cable subscriptions toward streaming platforms has significantly affected ABC’s profitability.

Reflecting on better days, Robach recalled the initial excitement surrounding “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” particularly highlighting the show’s impressive start. “I kept thinking about our first Emmy nominations,” Robach shared, choking back tears. “We believed we were creating something special. To think that’s all gone is heartbreaking.”

“What went through your mind the moment you heard the news?” Holmes asked gently.

“I thought of all those talented people who poured their lives into that program,” Robach replied. “They deserve better.”

Launched originally as “Pandemic: What You Need to Know” in March 2020, the show quickly gained traction with Robach at its helm alongside Holmes and physician Dr. Jennifer Ashton. ABC promoted the trio as a “powerhouse” daytime news team, with executive producer Catherine McKenzie praising their chemistry and commitment to straightforward reporting.

However, both Robach and Holmes were abruptly dismissed by ABC in January 2023 after leaked photographs sparked public controversy about their personal relationship. Robach and Holmes denied having an affair, stating they were already separating from their spouses when their relationship began. Their divorces were finalized later in 2023, and their former spouses, actor Andrew Shue and attorney Marilee Fiebig, subsequently began dating each other, adding further intrigue to the story.

“Everything ended so abruptly,” Robach concluded during the podcast. “It feels surreal and unfair.”

ABC News did not respond immediately to requests for comment.

  1. Understndable. I felt the same way after learning that many of my former business associates were let go after our Fortune 500 employer failed to meet financial exectations.
ABC Management failed to tell the TRUTH when reporting news because they were taking bribe money from the Biden administration to promote Democrat interests, badmouth Trump and omit Republican stories

  2. What goes around comes around, darling! Your employer and its news station told nothing but lies to its audience for the past 12 years! Your station went WOKE and promoted DEI, which is flawed and biased from every angle. Your station advocated for transgendered youth and radical surgery rendering the youth neither man nor woman and you did it without parental control. You told us the Green New Deal was good for the nation and everyone in it until it choked the middle class with skyrocketing utility costs. All the lies came to roost where the general public one day decided to shut off the bullshit once and for all. So now there are hundreds of unemployed people in broadcasting (the talking heads who spewed this bullshit) out there looking for jobs which no longer exist. You lied to us, and we turned you off!
