Prince William has finally had enough.
According to royal insiders, the future king plans to strip Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their “His/Her Royal Highness” (HRH) titles the moment he ascends to the throne — a move long overdue, many argue, after Meghan’s latest stunt showed open contempt for the monarchy and its traditions.
Despite stepping back from royal duties in 2020 under what was supposed to be a final deal with the late Queen Elizabeth II, Meghan has continued to flaunt her royal status when it suits her — the latest example being a self-signed note calling herself “HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”
The letter, attached to a basket of “homemade strawberry sauce” sent to beauty mogul Jamie Kern Lima, was proudly showcased on Kern Lima’s podcast. And it sent shockwaves through palace corridors.
“This is Meghan poking the bear, plain and simple,” a former royal courtier told us. “There was a crystal-clear agreement hammered out at Sandringham: no more using HRH, period. Not for work, not for gifts, not for Instagram posts. None of it.”
The agreement in question — announced publicly in January 2020 — stated in black and white that “The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.” Yet Meghan, true to form, appears to be testing how far she can bend the rules without facing consequences.
King Charles, insiders say, has chosen to “turn a blind eye” to the provocations. But William, according to multiple sources, has no intention of being so forgiving.
“William is livid. He sees Meghan’s antics as a direct insult — not just to the monarchy, but to his grandmother’s legacy,” one palace insider revealed. “He will not let them cheapen the Crown any further. The HRH titles will be formally revoked under his reign. Period.”
Tensions between William and the Sussexes have been simmering for years. Many close to the royal household believe the feud reached a point of no return after Harry and Meghan’s series of attacks on the monarchy through interviews, memoirs, and Netflix deals. Now, Meghan’s brazen use of the HRH styling has turned those simmering tensions into a full boil.
Adding insult to injury, Meghan’s defenders argue she’s technically allowed to use the title — as long as it’s “not for commercial purposes.” But many royal experts call that interpretation absurd.
Norman Baker, a former British government minister and a fierce critic of the Sussexes’ behavior, told us, “The HRH honorific is granted at the monarch’s pleasure. It’s not a birthright. If you dishonor the institution, it can be taken away just as easily as it was given. This should’ve been dealt with years ago.”
Historically, stripping HRH status has been rare, but not without precedent. Both Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson lost their HRH styles following their divorces from Charles and Andrew, respectively. Royal experts say Meghan’s situation, while technically different, is equally deserving of action.
“The monarchy is built on loyalty and service,” one former senior aide explained. “If someone walks away from that commitment — and worse, spits on it publicly — they shouldn’t be allowed to profit off the Crown’s prestige.”
Many believe Charles’ reluctance to act stems from fear of further damaging his fragile public image — already battered by years of scandals, abdications, and the slow creep of republican sentiment. His refusal to clamp down on Meghan and Harry is seen by some palace watchers as a sign of weakness.
“King Charles has lost control, simple as that,” said a source close to William. “He’s desperate to avoid drama in his final years. But William knows the Crown’s long-term survival depends on standing up to this kind of disrespect.”
The issue first reignited earlier this month when Meghan posted on social media a letter from Ukraine’s vice president addressing her as “Her Royal Highness.” At the time, palace sources said they suspected Meghan was “testing the waters” to gauge public reaction. But sending out personalized stationery branded with HRH marks a bold — and defiant — escalation.
“Printing her own HRH compliments slips? That’s not an accident. That’s a declaration of war,” the former courtier said.
As of now, the Sussexes remain officially HRH in legal terms — a loophole that infuriates traditionalists. But William, insiders say, is already quietly consulting with constitutional experts to find the quickest path to formally strip the titles once he is crowned.
A friend close to the Prince of Wales summed it up bluntly: “Meghan thinks she’s untouchable. She’s about to find out otherwise.”
Neither Kensington Palace nor Buckingham Palace would comment for this story. The Sussexes have remained silent.
But judging by the mood inside royal circles, the days of Harry and Meghan clinging to their royal styles while attacking the monarchy may finally be numbered.

In my opinion, Charles is very much like Biden, weak, indecisive with others telling them how to do their job.
William needs to remove the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles as well so she can’t merchandise off it.
I cannot imagine what Harry was thinking when he hooked up with Markle. She has NO concept of respect for anyone except herself. From where I sit this couple is a divorce waiting to happen!
Good for him. It sb done now.
