After a devastating accident turned a soccer celebration into chaos, Prince William and Princess Kate are speaking out.
The royal couple issued a heartfelt message after a vehicle plowed into a crowd during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade on Monday, May 26. The crash, which happened on Water Street, left 47 people injured—including four children—and sent more than two dozen to nearby hospitals. Two victims reportedly remain in serious condition.
In a post shared to social media, William and Kate expressed their sorrow over the tragedy. “We are deeply saddened by the scenes in Liverpool yesterday. What should have been a joyful celebration ended with tragedy,” the post read. “Our thoughts are with those who were injured and to the first responders and emergency services on the ground.” The couple signed off simply as “W & C.”
King Charles also released a personal statement through the royal family’s Instagram, saying he and Queen Camilla were “deeply shocked and saddened.” He added, “It is truly devastating to see that what should have been a joyous celebration for so many could end in such distressing circumstances.”
The King praised Liverpool’s community spirit, calling it a source of strength and comfort, and offered special thanks to first responders and citizens who rushed to help.
This isn’t the first time the Prince and Princess of Wales have stepped up in moments of crisis. Last July, after a fatal stabbing spree in Southport, the couple met with victims’ families and emergency personnel, even making private donations to support local recovery efforts.
