Communist Chinese Government Plotting ‘Something Worse’ Than COVID

“This is not just spying—it’s war,” says China analyst Gordon Chang as communist operatives bring lethal fungus to American soil

The arrest of two Chinese nationals in Michigan has triggered alarm bells across national security circles, as experts say the Communist regime is quietly escalating a biological war campaign on American soil. Their weapon? A toxic fungus capable of wiping out U.S. grain supplies and triggering mass food shortages.

According to the Department of Justice, 33-year-old Yunqing Jian—a research fellow at the University of Michigan with ties to the Chinese government—and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Zunyong Liu, were caught smuggling Fusarium graminearum into the country and covertly studying it in university labs.

“This couple didn’t come here to chase the American Dream,” said China expert and author Gordon Chang. “They came here to help the Chinese Communist Party destroy it.”

Bioterror by Fungus: Worse Than COVID?

The fungus in question isn’t just a lab curiosity—it’s a known agricultural bioweapon. Fusarium graminearum causes “head blight,” a devastating disease that attacks wheat, corn, and barley—America’s food staples. The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates global crop losses in the billions annually. More disturbingly, the fungus produces mycotoxins that are harmful to humans and livestock, leading to nausea, liver failure, and reproductive damage.

“This is an agroterror agent, plain and simple,” warned Jason Pack, a former FBI agent. “You introduce this into the Midwest grain belt, and you’re talking about food insecurity, economic chaos, and mass panic.”

A Pattern of Chinese Infiltration

Jian’s research, partially funded by the People’s Republic of China, raises serious questions about how deep Beijing’s tentacles reach into American universities. It’s not the first time the alarm has been sounded. In recent years, Chinese nationals and affiliates have repeatedly been caught spying or conducting suspicious activity on U.S. soil:

  • 2020: Two Chinese students illegally entered a Naval airbase in Key West, Florida, photographing defense infrastructure.
  • 2021: Harvard professor Charles Lieber was convicted for lying about his financial ties to China’s Thousand Talents Program, which encourages intellectual theft from Western labs.
  • 2022: Chinese national Ji Chaoqun was sentenced to eight years for espionage targeting U.S. defense contractors.
  • 2024: Five Chinese students were busted photographing military exercises at Michigan’s Camp Grayling.
  • 2025: Fengyun Shi, a University of Minnesota student, used a drone to film naval bases in Virginia—he was later deported.

Guantánamo for Bioterrorists?

Gordon Chang is calling for extreme measures: “This couple belongs in Guantánamo Bay,” he told Fox News Digital. “This wasn’t some academic mistake. This was an attack—intentional and calculated.”

He also pointed to the Communist Party’s 2019 declaration of a “People’s War” against the U.S.—a Maoist-style doctrine that mixes propaganda, espionage, and sabotage in a long-term campaign to undermine adversaries.

“The CCP doesn’t think in terms of peace or war. For them, it’s all one strategy—and it’s all hostile,” Chang said.

Seeds, Temu, and the Silent Invasion

Chang also recalled the bizarre wave of unsolicited seed packages sent from China to American homes in 2020—an event dismissed by many as a prank. But in hindsight, experts now say it could have been a dry run for introducing invasive species. And this year, Chinese online giant Temu allegedly shipped similar packages again, raising more red flags.

“We are sleepwalking into disaster,” said Chang. “Americans are too quick to assume goodwill. But what we’re seeing here is part of a pattern. China is not playing by our rules. They are preparing for a different kind of war—one we’re not ready for.”

What Happens If the Fungus Spreads?

“Picture walking into a grocery store and seeing no cereal, no bread, no animal feed,” said Pack. “Prices triple. Livestock dies. America becomes dependent on foreign food supplies. And China wins without firing a shot.”

That’s the nightmare scenario federal investigators say they’re trying to avoid. But with U.S. campuses still hosting thousands of Chinese nationals with CCP ties—and with American institutions unwilling to confront the threat head-on—the question remains: Are we already too late?

“This isn’t just about fungus,” Chang warned. “It’s about a regime that’s determined to bring the United States to its knees. And if we don’t act now, we will get hit again—harder than before.”

Tip of the Iceberg?

The DOJ says Jian and Liu face charges of conspiracy, visa fraud, smuggling, and false statements. But experts say those legal labels don’t capture the true gravity of the threat.

“This is a test run,” Pack concluded. “And we better start treating it like one.”

  1. And we’ve learned that Chinese precursor chemicals sold to Mexican Cartels, and CCP laundering cartels’ money are still another attack on America. I hope our SSBNs are positioned and ready for full scale nuclear attack on China, as I could see that becoming our only option.
And tariffs? Heck with that, PROPERTY taxes on all foreign-owned property in America.
