Actress, Cynthia Nixon, Reveals Trans Son Is on Hunger Strike for Gaza

Former “Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon is back in the headlines—this time not for acting, but for her family’s activism against Israel. Nixon revealed this week that her son, Seph Mozes, 28, is now on a “hunger strike” in Chicago to protest what he calls a “humanitarian crisis” in Gaza, siding with the far-left, anti-Israel group Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).

“He and five of his compatriots are doing a hunger strike in Chicago for Gaza,” Nixon told Newsweek. “Stop starving Gaza, stop arming Israel—that’s their motto.”

The protest, organized by JVP Chicago, is reportedly happening near the University of Chicago, Mozes’ alma mater. JVP is an openly anti-Zionist organization with a long history of inflammatory statements about Israel and American foreign policy. “No business as usual during genocide,” tweeted Eman Abdelhadi, a University of Chicago professor and self-described activist, promoting the protest on social media.

Background of Controversy

Nixon’s son, who describes himself as an “observant Jew,” claims to be inspired in part by his paternal grandparents, Holocaust survivors. Nixon, 59, herself participated in a similar “part-time hunger strike” in 2023—though she admitted she only joined for two out of five days.

The younger Mozes, like many young activists, seems to believe these dramatic displays will sway public opinion. “He doesn’t have illusions that he’s going to end the war, but I think he wants to do everything he can,” Nixon said.

Political Stunt or Genuine Concern?

Critics say hunger strikes like this are nothing more than political theater designed to vilify Israel and pressure the U.S. government. JVP has repeatedly been called out for spreading anti-Israel rhetoric and aligning with groups that refuse to condemn Hamas terrorism.

Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza remains dire. While Israel lifted some restrictions on aid earlier this year, chaos and violence still plague food distribution efforts—often complicated by Hamas’ own tactics and refusal to surrender. Last week, 51 people reportedly died after a shell struck a World Food Programme site, but details remain murky and fiercely disputed by both sides.

Star Power, Radical Politics

For Nixon, who rose to fame playing Miranda Hobbes, this isn’t her first foray into controversial politics. The actress-turned-activist has become a regular voice in progressive causes, but critics say she’s increasingly out of touch with the average American.

“Cynthia Nixon’s family is making headlines for all the wrong reasons,” said one longtime Democratic strategist who asked to remain anonymous. “While Israelis and Americans worry about terrorism, she’s out here supporting fringe protests instead of supporting our allies.”
