A quiet Saturday night ride on the subway turned into a near-fatal ambush when a 28-year-old man was stabbed repeatedly in the chest and neck aboard a southbound 2 train in the Bronx—allegedly by a mob of teenagers.
The bloody attack unfolded just before 10:20 p.m. as the train neared the 225th Street station. According to NYPD sources, a group of approximately 15 teens suddenly swarmed the victim, plunging blades into his upper body in a frenzied assault that left passengers in shock and the train car soaked in panic.
“He was covered in blood. It looked like he wasn’t going to make it,” said one eyewitness who asked not to be named. “Everyone was screaming and running. It was like something out of a horror movie.”
Despite being stabbed multiple times in the neck and once in the chest, the unidentified man managed to cling to life. Emergency crews rushed him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he remained in stable condition late Saturday night. Authorities say it’s a miracle he survived.
Police believe the attack may have been unprovoked, though the motive remains unclear. The assailants—described as a group of rowdy teens wearing dark clothing—reportedly bolted from the train at the next stop, vanishing into the Bronx night before officers could arrive.
No arrests have been made, and the NYPD has launched a full-scale investigation. Surveillance footage from both the subway train and station is being reviewed.
“We’re treating this as a gang-related assault until we can rule otherwise,” said one senior police official. “There is zero tolerance for this kind of brutality in our transit system.”
Subway crime in New York has seen a sharp increase in recent months. According to NYPD transit data, felony assaults in the transit system are up more than 20% compared to this time last year. Riders, advocates, and city officials alike are calling for increased police patrols underground.
“This isn’t just a fluke—it’s part of a disturbing trend,” said Councilman Rafael Salamanca Jr., who represents part of the Bronx. “Our subways must be safe for every New Yorker.”
The victim’s identity has not been released pending family notification, and police are asking anyone with information about the attack to contact Crime Stoppers.
As of early Sunday morning, officers remained stationed at multiple Bronx subway stops, questioning witnesses and canvassing for leads in a case that’s quickly becoming a flashpoint in the city’s spiraling transit violence crisis.

Ah, yes, the euphemistic “teens” strike again, the teens who will forevermore be protected from having a description.
Ahhh the poor boys, give them a smack on the wrist and wish them well!!!!!
NYC needs to allow concealed carry if they are going to allow thugs to roam around.
I\’m sure, of course, that AOC is helping the NYPD to arrest these hoodlums as this is her district.
Is the NYPD so cowed that they cannot even Tell what color this Gang was? I can guess, but does that make me a racist? Put the animals in prison, & I don’t give a flying F… if they are only 13 years old, nip it in the bud. The gang members will end up in prison anyway.
