Top Democrats Privately Doubted Biden’s Fitness—Long Before 2024 Exit
A stunning new revelation out of Capitol Hill has thrown fresh fuel on the fire surrounding ex-President Joe Biden’s mental fitness—and it’s coming straight from inside the Democratic power circle.
Ron Klain, Biden’s former White House Chief of Staff, quietly sat for over five hours behind closed doors with House Oversight Committee investigators Thursday. According to a senior source briefed on the interview, Klain confirmed that both Hillary Clinton and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expressed serious doubts about Biden’s political viability as early as 2023.
“The alarm bells were ringing long before Biden stumbled on that debate stage,” the source said. “Hillary Clinton personally approached Klain with her concerns, as did Sullivan. They didn’t think he could make it to November 2024.”
This latest testimony is part of an escalating probe by Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) into whether senior Biden officials covered up the former president’s mental decline—knowingly misleading voters while a visibly faltering commander-in-chief clung to power.
“He Confused Names… It Got Worse”
Klain, who led Biden’s West Wing operation during his first two years in office, did not sugarcoat what he saw.
“Mr. Klain acknowledged that Biden frequently confused names and proper nouns,” the source said. “It got worse over time.”
While Klain insisted the ex-president was still capable of governing, he reportedly admitted that Biden’s energy, memory, and sharpness had clearly diminished by 2024. Sullivan allegedly told Klain that Biden was “noticeably less effective” in 2024 compared to just two years prior.
Clinton, the 2016 Democratic nominee and longtime political heavyweight, expressed private concerns about Biden’s declining political strength before his eventual withdrawal from the race in July 2024.
Comer’s Committee Closing In
House Republicans aren’t letting go. Klain is now the sixth former Biden aide to testify before the Oversight Committee in the past three months. Chairman Comer briefly joined the session himself, alongside Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Ro Khanna (D-CA).
Biggs described Klain as “credible,” while Khanna, a Democrat, conceded that Klain “answered every single question.”
“This wasn’t a political circus. It was about getting facts—and Klain gave us plenty,” a senior committee aide told us.
Other key aides haven’t been as forthcoming. Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and even Biden’s longtime physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor all invoked the Fifth Amendment during prior testimony. Meanwhile, Jeff Zients, Biden’s final chief of staff, has reportedly been asked to testify next.
Democrats Point Fingers, Deny Everything
Team Biden is scrambling. A source close to the former president dismissed the investigation as a “political hit job” orchestrated by what they call Trump’s “revenge DOJ”—a term already circulating among progressive strategists.
Adrienne Watson, a spokesperson for Jake Sullivan, flatly denied the story, saying: “Jake did not have a conversation with Ron about Joe Biden running for president before the debate.”
Fox News Digital also reached out to Clinton’s camp and Klain’s attorney, but neither responded by press time.

The implications are enormous. Biden’s mental capacity had long been a whispered concern among Americans—especially after repeated public gaffes, awkward teleprompter stumbles, and apparent confusion during global summits. Now, Klain’s testimony reveals that even his closest allies were sounding the alarm in private while assuring the public all was fine.
President Trump, now firmly in command of the GOP and seeking re-election, has repeatedly said Biden was never fit for the job. This week’s hearing only bolsters that case.
“Democrats knew Biden couldn’t do the job, and they hid it,” Chairman Comer said in a statement. “Now the American people are finally getting the truth.”
