Kamala Harris to Dropping Memoir on Embarrassing Failed White House Bid

Kamala Harris, the former vice president who led the Democrats to defeat in the 2024 election, is set to release a memoir this fall chronicling her famously short-lived presidential run—a campaign that lasted just 107 days before Donald Trump clinched a landslide victory and returned to the White House.

The book, titled 107 Days, hits shelves September 23 via Simon & Schuster. Harris, who was thrust into the national spotlight after President Biden’s withdrawal last year, promises readers a “behind-the-scenes” look at what some political insiders have called the most chaotic campaign in modern memory.

“In just 107 days, I traveled the country, fought for our future, and made history,” Harris said in a video announcement Thursday, framing her abrupt run as historic. “This book is my honest and behind-the-scenes account—what I saw, what I learned, and what I believe it will take to move forward.”

Critics, however, see the move as yet another attempt to salvage her political brand after a string of defeats on the national stage. “The American people made their choice clear in 2024,” said GOP strategist Matt Raymond. “This book is just Harris trying to rewrite her own legacy.”

After stepping down as vice president following Biden’s departure amid widespread concerns about his age and performance, Harris quickly found herself as the Democratic nominee facing Donald Trump. But her campaign was dogged by internal division, poor polling, and what many saw as a lack of clear vision. By November, Trump was headed back to the Oval Office, and Harris joined the ranks of twice-defeated candidates.

“She tried to spin her loss as part of a bigger journey, but voters weren’t buying it,” said political analyst Laura Michaels.

Simon & Schuster is marketing the memoir as a must-read political thriller, with CEO Jonathan Karp declaring, “It captures the drama of running for president better than just about anything I’ve read.” Karp dodged questions about whether the book addresses Biden’s controversial exit, but said Harris covers “everything we would want her to address.”

Financial terms of the book deal remain secret.

Despite her back-to-back losses, Harris isn’t ruling out another run for the White House in 2028. “Sometimes the fight takes a while,” Harris said. “I will never stop fighting to make our country reflect the very best of its ideals.”

But with new Democratic stars like Pete Buttigieg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Gavin Newsom eyeing 2028, Harris’ political future is far from certain. “The party’s ready to move on,” said former DNC staffer Rob Finch. “Voters are looking for fresh faces, not recycled candidates.”

Harris has already passed on the 2026 California gubernatorial race, fueling more rumors about her next move. “For now, my leadership—and public service—will not be in elected office,” she announced. “But I’m not going away.”

Harris is expected to make the media rounds this fall, starting with an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. No official word yet on a book tour, but sources say she may hit the road to drum up support—and perhaps test the waters for another campaign.
