Woman Drops Dead on Bus With 26 iPhones Taped to Her Body

A young woman’s sudden collapse aboard a Brazilian bus has sparked a chilling investigation after authorities discovered a shocking twist: her body was strapped with 26 iPhones, all tightly taped to her torso and legs.

The 20-year-old, whose name has not been released, was traveling alone on an overnight bus headed from the border city of Foz do Iguaçu—an area notorious for black market electronics trafficking—toward São Paulo, Brazil’s financial capital.

Her final moments were terrifying. According to local reports, the bus had stopped for a late-night meal break at a roadside restaurant on the BR-277 highway in Guarapuava when she approached restaurant staff gasping for air. Witnesses say she collapsed moments later, convulsing as other passengers screamed for help.

Paramedics rushed in and fought for 45 minutes to revive her. She never regained consciousness.

Then came the shocking discovery.

When first responders began cutting away her clothes to try to restart her heart, they uncovered layers of duct tape securing rows of iPhones to her chest, stomach, and thighs—26 in total. Authorities believe the devices were being smuggled into Brazil, possibly to avoid hefty import taxes, which can drive up iPhone prices by 100% or more.

“This wasn’t just a few phones in a bag,” said a senior police official with Paraná’s Civil Police. “These were tightly bound to her body. We’re talking about a very deliberate and dangerous attempt to traffic electronics.”

Police also seized several bottles of liquor from her luggage, but no drugs were found. A trained sniffer dog at the scene confirmed the absence of narcotics.

An autopsy is now underway to determine what caused her death. Investigators are reportedly considering several possibilities: heat exhaustion, cardiac arrest from the physical strain, or possibly an allergic reaction to the materials used to bind the phones.

Toxicology tests are also pending.

“She said she couldn’t breathe just before she collapsed,” said a restaurant worker who witnessed the incident. “She looked terrified. I thought she was having a panic attack.”

Officials say the iPhones have been handed over to customs authorities, who will now investigate whether this case is part of a broader smuggling network operating along the Brazil-Paraguay border.

Foz do Iguaçu has long been a hotspot for electronics smuggling due to its proximity to Ciudad del Este, a Paraguayan city infamous for its bustling gray market of unregulated goods.

“This is not the first time we’ve seen phone mules,” said a São Paulo customs officer speaking on background. “But the fact that it ended in death makes this especially disturbing. There may be others out there being pressured or paid to take similar risks.”

As investigators await test results, officials are urging anyone traveling through border regions to be cautious and to avoid becoming unwitting couriers for criminal enterprises.

“This girl may have been a victim in more ways than one,” said the officer. “And we need to know who sent her.”

  1. Or, maybe she was addicted to phone sex and was planning on having the biggest orgy ever with multiple participants all at once and she needed to make contact with a lot of participants all at the same time. Hey, not saying that’s the case, but you gotta look at all the possibilities.
