ARLINGTON, VA — A horrifying tragedy has rocked Newsmax and its viewers. Travis Renee Baldwin, 57, a beloved makeup artist for Newsmax host Greta Van Susteren, was allegedly shot and killed by her own son early Sunday morning in Arlington, Virginia.
Police say they were called to a luxury apartment complex around 8:30 a.m. and found Baldwin suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities have arrested Baldwin’s son, 27-year-old Logan Chrisinger, on suspicion of first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility. Police have not released a motive, and court documents so far shed little light on what may have led to the killing.
Greta Van Susteren Speaks Out
Greta Van Susteren, who has worked alongside Baldwin for over three years, expressed heartbreak and disbelief in a statement posted Tuesday.
“What sadness… my Newsmax makeup artist of 3½ years — and years at ABC, ESPN, and elsewhere — and a friend to all her colleagues… was murdered over the weekend,” Van Susteren wrote. “She had just done my makeup on Friday for my show. Of course, I never dreamed that would be the last time I would see her.”
Baldwin had been a well-respected figure in broadcast television for decades, working with multiple major networks before joining Newsmax in 2022, the same year Van Susteren launched The Record with Greta Van Susteren.
A Career Behind the Camera
Colleagues described Baldwin as “the heart of the studio” and “someone who always made people feel at ease under the lights.” Over the years, she worked with some of the biggest names in cable news, including during Van Susteren’s time at Fox News, NBC, and ABC.
“She had this rare ability to calm you down when the cameras were about to roll,” said one Newsmax producer who requested anonymity. “Everybody loved Travis.”
Ongoing Investigation
Police say investigators are working to piece together the moments leading up to Baldwin’s death, including whether there were any prior domestic disputes. Arlington officials confirmed that no prior restraining orders or police calls involving the family have surfaced so far.
Chrisinger is expected to appear in court later this week for his arraignment. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
This developing case has rattled Newsmax viewers and renewed conversations about family violence and mental health across the country.
