A newly released congressional video has filled a mysterious one-minute gap in surveillance footage from Jeffrey Epstein’s jail unit on the night of his 2019 death, reigniting debates and conspiracy theories surrounding the financier’s alleged suicide.
The footage, part of a massive 34,000-file drop by the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday night, captures the disputed window between 11:58:59 p.m. on August 9, 2019, and midnight on August 10, 2019 — the night Epstein was found dead inside his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.
Previously, digital forensics experts discovered that the Department of Justice’s original video appeared to have been stitched together from two separate clips using Adobe Premiere Pro, fueling widespread speculation that officials were hiding something.
The newly released clips reveal the camera system automatically switched files at midnight, explaining why the footage had to be combined to create a continuous video. Fox News Digital merged the two clips, showing there was no actual lapse in surveillance — directly contradicting former Attorney General Pam Bondi’s earlier claim that the last minute of footage is deleted nightly.
Bondi previously defended the missing footage, saying, “Every night the video is reset, and every night should have the same minute missing.”
While the new video doesn’t show any suspicious activity or Epstein’s cell during the missing minute, it hasn’t stopped speculation from swirling. Many continue to question the official finding that Epstein died by suicide while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
