Outrage After Congressman Laughs at Trump Death Rumors (Video)

Minnesota’s Democratic Gov. Tim Walz is under fire after delivering what critics are calling one of the most “vile” and “deranged” moments of his career. Speaking at a Labor Day picnic in Duluth, Walz seemed to flirt with the idea of President Donald Trump’s death — and laughed about it.

“Look, I get it,” Walz said, smirking to the crowd. “You doom scroll through things, although I will say this — the last few days, you woke up thinking there might be news… Just saying, just saying, there will be news sometime.”

The audience chuckled. But for millions of Americans, there was nothing funny about it. Trump has survived two assassination attempts in the past year — one at a Pennsylvania rally and another foiled plot at his Florida golf club. Walz’s glib “there will be news” remark landed like a gut punch.

Conservatives erupted instantly.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer slammed Walz:

“Mocking President Trump’s health is a new low — even for you. Wishing ill on others doesn’t make you a leader. It makes you small. Minnesotans deserve better.”

Rep. Pete Stauber accused Walz of hypocrisy, pointing out the governor’s past calls to “tone down rhetoric.” Conservative influencer Benny Johnson was even harsher:

“Tim Walz was excited about rumors claiming President Trump had died. This guy is sick.”

Another viral post from commentator Johnny MAGA went for the jugular:

“Schoolchildren were just shot in a Minnesota church last week, and this is what Walz is thinking about? Absolute monster.”

This wasn’t an isolated slip. Walz has made attacking Trump his personal brand since last fall, famously telling Democrats to “bully the s*** out of” the president and “be a little meaner.” His political rhetoric has gotten sharper as he weighs a potential reelection campaign.

Republicans say this is part of a broader Democratic strategy to normalize hostility toward Trump and his supporters. “They don’t just want him out of office,” said GOP strategist Amanda Foster. “They want him gone — permanently.”

President Trump addressed the swirling health rumors from the Oval Office Tuesday, calling them “ridiculous” and “fake news.”

“I didn’t do anything for two days, and they said ‘there must be something wrong with him,’” Trump said, joking with reporters. “I was very active, actually — out meeting people, visiting my club on the Potomac. I feel great.”

In a pointed swipe at Joe Biden, Trump added:

“You wouldn’t see him. Nobody ever said there was anything wrong with him. And we know he wasn’t in the greatest of shape.”

Walz’s “joke” struck a nerve because of the real danger Trump has faced. Two assassination attempts in 12 months. Heightened security at every rally. And now, a sitting governor seemingly laughing about death rumors.

Republicans say this is exactly why Americans don’t trust the left. They see it as a revealing glimpse into how Democrats really talk behind closed doors.

Political analyst Scott Jennings summed it up bluntly:

“If a Republican joked like this about Biden, the media would burn the country down. But when Walz does it? Crickets.”

Walz’s office hasn’t responded to requests for comment. But GOP operatives are already cutting ads using the Labor Day clip. Expect to see it everywhere in swing states, from Minnesota to Wisconsin.

With Trump stronger than ever heading into 2026, Republicans are framing this as proof that Democrats are panicking — and crossing lines Americans won’t forget.
