The assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk has shocked the nation, with President Trump condemning the killer as a “monster” and Dr. Drew Pinsky warning that America is now reaping the deadly cost of political dehumanization.
Kirk, just 31 and a father of two young children, was shot dead Wednesday night while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem. Witnesses described panic as students and parents scrambled for cover in what many are calling the most brazen political assassination since the attempts on President Trump’s life in 2024.
“This is what happens when you strip people of their humanity,” Dr. Drew said on Hannity hours after the attack. “Throughout history, mass killings always follow the same pattern: mobs scapegoat, they dehumanize, and then they go for blood.”
Pinsky, now chief patient officer at The Wellness Company, argued that Kirk’s outspokenness on morality and faith made him a prime target.
“Charlie was someone who stood for truth. But we now have people in this country so brainwashed, they see truth as evil. They don’t see him as a husband or father. They see a cartoon character to destroy,” Dr. Drew explained.
He warned that social media mobs are blurring the line between rhetoric and violence. “People feel at liberty to act out on public figures in real life because they’ve been conditioned online to think these are not real people with families. This is bad for everyone’s soul.”
Kirk had built Turning Point USA into a powerhouse movement, training thousands of young conservatives and unapologetically backing Donald Trump. His fiery college debates and packed campus events made him a hero to the right and a lightning rod for the left.
Married to Erika Lane Frantzve, Kirk leaves behind two children. Just days before his death, Erika posted a photo of their family with the caption: “Fighting for truth so our kids will know freedom.”
President Trump addressed the nation Wednesday night, calling the assassin “a monster who tried to silence one of America’s strongest conservative voices.” He pledged that Kirk’s killer would face swift justice.
“This is a dark moment for America,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “But Charlie’s mission lives on. His legacy will inspire the next generation of patriots.”
Vigils have sprung up from Arizona to Florida, with thousands of college students holding candles in Kirk’s honor. Outside TPUSA headquarters in Phoenix, one supporter said, “He gave us courage to speak out. We will not let his voice be silenced.”
Republican lawmakers are calling for hearings on campus safety and political violence. Utah Sen. Mike Lee told reporters: “If a conservative can be assassinated while speaking on a college stage in America, then free speech itself is under attack.”
Dr. Drew urged Americans to remember Kirk not as a victim but as a martyr for free speech.
“Charlie created institutions that will continue long after him,” he said. “His death is tragic, it’s devastating for his family, but he will not die in vain. We can make sure of that.”
President Trump announced Thursday that Kirk will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom — the nation’s highest civilian honor.

I believe as a physician we have a 3 tiered approach needed! Not in any particular order but I believe we need to start at the 6/7 grade level identifying children for mental health services! Second the legal system has to step up and deal with recidivism and identify those who need mental health services also! Third gun control and by that I mean assault weapons and places where the experts deem we can without eliminating second amendment rights. But I have seen a tsunami of mental health issues in our children and we as a country and Americans need to step up and put politics aside as best we can!
