Even Spidey Needs a Breather Sometimes
Tom Holland, the 29-year-old heartthrob known for playing your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, recently hit a bump—literally—while filming the latest web-slinging installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
According to Deadline, the star suffered a mild concussion after a stunt went awry on set. The mishap was serious enough to pause production temporarily and send Holland to the hospital for evaluation. Thankfully, doctors released him the same day, and insiders say he’s just taking a short break “out of precaution.”
While fans feared the worst, there’s no long-term damage. Holland even made an appearance at a charity event over the weekend with fiancée Zendaya and his father—though he reportedly ducked out early due to lingering discomfort.
Holland isn’t the only big-name actor pushing physical limits. Charlize Theron recently revealed she was injured filming her new movie Apex. Speaking at a Netflix event, the 49-year-old Oscar winner said she did her own stunts—often without a safety harness.
“It’s a miracle I’m here today,” Theron joked. Turns out, under her red carpet-ready boots, she’s hiding a fractured toe. “I still have some Australian dirt under this manicure,” she added with a smile.
Of course, when it comes to daredevil actors, no one tops Tom Cruise. The Mission: Impossible star nearly broke his back leaping from one biplane to another in The Final Reckoning. Director Christopher McQuarrie recalled the stunt saying it “separated the joints in Tom’s fingers” due to the intense force.
Cruise himself admitted, “Oh God, that was brutal.”
While Hollywood’s leading men and women continue to push the envelope, experts are quick to remind us that professional stunt doubles are crucial. “Actors like Cruise are impressive,” said stunt coordinator Freddy Bouciegues, “but safety always comes first.”
Tom Holland may be bouncing back quickly, but his tumble reminds us all that even superheroes can have rough landings.
