A newly surfaced jailhouse video shows Jeffrey Epstein making a shocking and racially charged complaint while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges, adding another unsettling layer to the late financier’s already infamous legacy.
The grainy footage, released as part of a massive Justice Department document dump in early 2026, appears to capture Epstein speaking casually from inside his jail cell. He can be heard describing an alleged encounter with another inmate in crude and offensive terms.
In the clip, Epstein claims he developed a cold sore after what he described as an unwanted attempt at a kiss by “a Black guy,” calling the incident “really disgusting.” His tone is dismissive, almost flippant, as he gestures toward his face and complains about the mark.
“Okay, so Darren and I are sitting here,” Epstein says, glancing off camera. “You can see I have a little sore on my face that I got from some black guy trying to kiss me. It’s really disgusting.”
@metrouk The convicted sex offender was heard saying he had a cold sore because 'a Black guy tried to kiss me' in the grainy video released by the US Department of Justice. While the full context of the video is unknown, Epstein directs the message to 'Darren' before telling the other person in the room 'I'm pretending I'm talking to Darren'. #epstein #epsteinfiles #crime #news #worldnews ♬ Mysterious and sad BGM(1120058) – S and N
A muffled voice responds off screen, while Epstein groans and continues lamenting the sore before abruptly changing the subject.
Moments later, Epstein shifts into small talk about decorating his cell.
“Anyway, I have pictures up on the wall,” he says. “I had to borrow the Scotch tape to get the pictures on the wall.”
The recording ends without explanation. Federal officials have not confirmed the exact date the video was filmed, but records indicate Epstein was being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan after his July 2019 arrest.
Epstein was charged with operating a sprawling sex-trafficking network involving underage girls. He died in his cell on August 10, 2019. His death was officially ruled a suicide by hanging, but controversy has never faded. Surveillance failures, broken protocols, and Epstein’s powerful connections have fueled years of skepticism and conspiracy theories.
Doubts about the official ruling intensified again in 2025, when his former associate Ghislaine Maxwell, speaking from prison, flatly rejected the suicide finding.
“I do not believe he died by suicide,” she told Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche during a recorded interview.
The jailhouse footage is just one of millions of items released in the latest phase of the DOJ’s Epstein files, which continue to expose disturbing details about his mindset and behavior.
Another resurfaced recording included in the release shows Epstein in conversation with former White House strategist Steve Bannon, filmed inside Epstein’s New York mansion before his arrest.
During the exchange, Bannon confronts Epstein with a chilling question.
“Do you think you are the devil himself?” Bannon asks, pressing him about his wealth and moral compass.
Epstein responds with a smirk. “No, but I have a good mirror.”
When Bannon pushes back, calling it a serious question and listing the traits that make Epstein unsettling, the mood shifts. Epstein appears momentarily rattled.
“The devil scares me,” he finally admits.
Nearly seven years after his death, Epstein continues to cast a long shadow over American politics, law enforcement, and elite power circles. With each new document release, the picture grows darker — and the unanswered questions only multiply.
