Rudy Giuliani Rushed Into Critical Care as Pneumonia Ravages Body

Rudy Giuliani, the man many conservatives still hail as “America’s Mayor,” is in a serious fight for his life after a brutal case of pneumonia reportedly sent him to the hospital in critical condition.

The 81-year-old former New York City mayor remains in critical but stable condition after the illness rapidly tore through his system, according to his spokesman, Ted Goodman. In a sobering update, Goodman said Giuliani’s past health issues made the respiratory crisis even more dangerous and left doctors scrambling to stabilize him.

Goodman said Giuliani’s condition was made worse by restrictive airway disease, a diagnosis linked to his exposure during the September 11 terrorist attacks, when he famously ran toward the Twin Towers as others fled. That long-standing respiratory damage, he said, made this latest illness especially dangerous.

“The virus quickly overwhelmed his body,” Goodman said, explaining that Giuliani needed mechanical ventilation to maintain oxygen levels and help stabilize his condition.

There was at least one hopeful sign. Giuliani is now said to be breathing on his own, surrounded by family and his primary medical provider. His spokesman struck an upbeat tone, saying the former mayor is battling through the crisis with the same toughness he has shown throughout his life.

Still, concern is growing behind the scenes. A source close to the Trump administration said Giuliani’s condition has deeply worried those around him and bluntly added that “he isn’t in good shape.”

For many on the right, the news is especially jarring. Giuliani has long been seen as a symbol of strength and resolve, particularly for his leadership after 9/11, when he became the face of New York’s response to one of the darkest days in American history. That legacy has remained central to how supporters view him, even through years of legal battles, political firestorms, and personal health struggles.

This is not the first major medical scare Giuliani has faced in recent months. In August 2025, he was seriously hurt in a violent car crash in New Hampshire after reportedly stopping to help a woman involved in a domestic violence incident. According to a statement from his head of security, Giuliani had rendered aid and contacted 911 before his vehicle was hit from behind at high speed on the highway.

The crash left him hospitalized with a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg. Even after that frightening ordeal, Giuliani pushed forward. The following month, he appeared at a 9/11 memorial service at Ground Zero in a wheelchair and chest brace, standing for parts of the ceremony despite the pain.

President Donald Trump later praised Giuliani in glowing terms and announced plans to award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, calling him “the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City” and “an equally great American Patriot.” The ceremony, however, has still not been scheduled.

Now, Giuliani is once again facing a brutal test, this time from a life-threatening illness that struck fast and hit hard. Supporters are praying that the man who became a national symbol of grit in a time of crisis can once more defy the odds.
