Country music legend Randy Travis made an unforgettable trip to Chicago after learning that a woman dying from cancer had one final wish — to meet him.
The touching surprise unfolded Friday at City of Hope Chicago, where the patient is receiving care and reportedly has little time left.
Hospital officials said they contacted Travis and his wife after discovering how much it would mean to the woman to speak with the country star. Staff members initially asked whether Travis might be willing to join her through a video call.
But Travis and his wife decided that a screen was not enough.
Instead, the couple boarded a flight to Chicago and surprised the patient with an emotional in-person visit at her hospital bedside.
The deeply personal gesture gave the longtime fan a chance to meet the man whose music had meant so much to her during her life.
Travis also spent time visiting hospital employees Friday, creating a memorable day for patients and staff members alike.
The moment was especially powerful given the country singer’s own long health journey. Travis continues to live with the lasting effects of a severe stroke he suffered in 2013.
Despite those challenges, the 67-year-old star traveled to Chicago to make sure one devoted fan’s final wish came true.
Born in North Carolina, Travis became one of country music’s most influential traditionalists, helping bring the genre back to its roots during the 1980s.
