Teen Killed by Semi-Truck While Riding E-Scooter Home from Work

A Chicago teenager’s trip home from work ended in tragedy when he lost control of his e-scooter and was fatally struck by a semi-truck on a busy city street.

Alex Blacio was riding north along the 4100 block of North Western Avenue at about 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, when the horrific crash occurred, according to Chicago police.

Investigators said Alex and the large commercial truck were traveling in the same direction when the teen lost control of his scooter and came into contact with the massive vehicle.

The crash happened less than a mile from Lane Tech College Prep High School.

Alex suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.

Police said citations remain pending as the department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit works to determine exactly what caused the deadly collision.

Alex’s devastated sister, Andrea, said he had been riding home from work when his life was suddenly cut short.

She created a GoFundMe campaign to help the family cover medical and funeral expenses while remembering her brother as a kind-hearted teenager with an unforgettable spirit.

“Alex was an incredible child, with such a noble heart, and the freest soul I have ever met,” Andrea wrote. “Pray he rests in peace & help us give him a proper goodbye.”

The tragedy marks the third time a teenager riding an e-scooter has been fatally struck in Chicago in 2026.

Seventeen-year-old Astrid Alexandra Carrillo Noguera and 15-year-old Violet Harris were also killed in separate e-scooter crashes on the city’s South Side. Their deaths occurred less than a month apart, according to NBC affiliate WMAQ.

Alex’s death has now added to growing concerns about the dangers young riders face while using e-scooters on crowded Chicago streets.
