Mamdani Booed Off Stage at NYC Event (Video)

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani received a brutal welcome in Staten Island after an angry crowd booed, cursed and demanded that he leave a celebration honoring police officers.

The Democratic Socialist mayor lasted less than a minute onstage Tuesday evening at the National Night Out Against Crime event in Midland Beach, where many attendees appeared furious that he had shown up at all.

As Mamdani approached the microphone, loud jeers erupted from a crowd that included some of the roughly 3,500 people attending the borough’s 43rd annual police-community celebration.

Some people shouted profanities and repeatedly told the mayor to get off the stage. A smaller number of attendees could be heard cheering.

Despite the hostile reception, Mamdani smiled as he addressed the crowd.

“Happy Night Out Against Crime. It’s amazing to be here for the Staten Island community,” he said.

The mayor briefly acknowledged local elected officials and patriotic artist Scott LoBaido, a vocal supporter of veterans and law enforcement who has repeatedly criticized Mamdani’s policies.

“It’s a real pleasure to be here,” Mamdani continued. “Happy National Night Out Against Crime. God bless everyone. Thank you.”

He then quickly walked offstage as the boos continued.

The already tense evening took a frightening turn shortly before 7 p.m. when LoBaido suffered cardiac arrest, according to the FDNY. He was later listed in critical but stable condition.

A witness said LoBaido had arrived with a group hoping to confront Mamdani over his reported plan to abandon a phased proposal to hire 5,000 additional NYPD officers.

Just hours before the event, LoBaido accused the mayor on Facebook of humiliating police officers and putting their lives at risk, while questioning why Mamdani would attend an event intended to celebrate law enforcement.

The witness said LoBaido attempted to approach the mayor as Mamdani left the stage but was held back by officers working security.

Moments later, LoBaido reportedly said, “I’m not feeling well. I need to sit down.”

He dropped to one knee before collapsing onto his back.

First responders immediately rushed to help, performing CPR and chest compressions before giving him oxygen and transporting him to a hospital.

“They really did a good job,” the witness said of the emergency crews.

Later Tuesday night, LoBaido appeared to signal that he was recovering by posting a photo from his hospital bed. Wearing a nasal oxygen tube, the outspoken artist raised his middle finger toward the camera.

The dramatic scene unfolded during one of more than 70 National Night Out events held across New York City. The annual program is designed to strengthen relationships between police officers and the communities they serve.

The Staten Island celebration included food, bounce houses, face painting, children’s arts and crafts, a puppet show and performances from local dance groups.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who was originally appointed by former Mayor Eric Adams and later retained by Mamdani, also addressed the crowd.

Tisch praised officers and emphasized the importance of cooperation between police, residents and elected leaders.

“Public safety is something that we all build together, and nights like this remind us of the relationship of police officers, neighbors, community members and elected officials,” she said.

Mamdani’s disastrous reception was hardly surprising in Staten Island, the city’s most reliably Republican borough and an area where voters overwhelmingly rejected his mayoral campaign.

While Mamdani won the 2025 election citywide with 50.9 percent of the vote, defeating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who received 41.4 percent, Staten Island voters made it clear they wanted no part of his far-left agenda.

Tuesday night showed that those feelings have not softened.

At a celebration meant to honor police officers and neighborhood safety, Mamdani found himself facing a crowd that appeared determined to remind him exactly where he stood.
