Meghan Markle Fired from New Role After ‘Intense’ Backlash?

Meghan Markle’s rumored return to acting may have hit trouble before it even got off the ground.

The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly no longer being considered for a role in Guy Ritchie’s hit Netflix series “The Gentlemen” after her potential casting sparked fierce backlash in Britain.

Royal biographer Tina Brown claimed Saturday that plans involving Meghan had been dropped because the reaction in the U.K. became too difficult to ignore.

“I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series ‘The Gentlemen’ has been withdrawn,” Brown wrote on her “Fresh Hell” Substack, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Brown, the former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, claimed the backlash was “so intense” that moving forward with Meghan had become “untenable.”

“This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the UK,” she added.

The claim comes just one day after reports surfaced that Meghan, 45, was in early talks to appear in a possible third season of Ritchie’s British crime-comedy series.

Netflix has not yet officially announced Season 3.

Had the deal happened, it would have marked Meghan’s first major acting role since she walked away from Hollywood before marrying Prince Harry in 2018.

The former “Suits” star played Rachel Zane on the legal drama for seven seasons before trading television sets for royal life.

But that chapter did not last long.

Meghan and Harry stunned the monarchy in 2020 when they stepped back as senior working royals and moved to California, where they began building a new media empire.

Since then, Meghan has tried her hand at podcasts, lifestyle projects, streaming shows and other business ventures.

The couple also signed a massive Netflix deal after leaving Britain, eventually releasing the blockbuster 2022 docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” which included explosive allegations about their treatment inside the royal family.

Their original Netflix agreement was later replaced by a first-look deal, a move that sparked speculation about whether the streaming giant was scaling back its relationship with the Sussexes.

Meanwhile, talk of Meghan returning to acting has arrived at an especially sensitive time.

Reports have also claimed that Meghan and Harry are preparing to spend more time in Britain, potentially putting them back in close proximity to Prince William and Kate Middleton after years of family tension.

Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner recently suggested that a renewed Meghan media blitz could create even more friction within the royal family.

He argued that Meghan’s acting comeback and the Sussexes’ growing public profile could overshadow William and Kate and worsen the already strained relationship between Harry and his older brother.

For Meghan, a part in “The Gentlemen” could have been a major Hollywood-style comeback.

The Netflix series, created by Guy Ritchie and starring Theo James, has become one of the streamer’s buzziest British productions.

Instead, if Brown’s account is accurate, Meghan’s potential return to acting may have been stopped by the very controversy that has followed her and Harry since their dramatic royal exit.
