‘Today’ Co-Host Wants More Pay Amid Workload Tensions

Craig Melvin is reportedly fed up with pulling extra duty on Today — and now he wants NBC to pay up.

The longtime morning show star is allegedly looking to step away from the third hour of Today as frustrations grow over what he sees as an uneven workload compared with co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, according to insiders who spoke with RadarOnline.com.

Melvin and Guthrie may share top billing on the NBC morning show, but sources claim Melvin doesn’t believe their schedules reflect an equal partnership.

“Craig looks at the clock and thinks, ‘How is this an equal partnership?'” one television insider told Radar.

According to the source, Guthrie is typically able to wrap up her duties around 9 a.m., while Melvin remains on the job for the show’s third hour.

“Savannah gets to leave at nine. Craig keeps working,” the insider claimed. “He’s done being the workhorse. He feels like he’s doing more and getting less.”

Now, Melvin reportedly wants NBC executives to recognize the additional workload — both in his role and his paycheck.

Sources said the 47-year-old broadcaster wants his salary, schedule and responsibilities to better reflect what he believes he brings to Today.

“He knows what he’s worth,” the insider said. “Now he wants NBC to know it, too.”

The reported tensions come after Melvin spent years climbing the ranks at NBC News. He joined Today as a weekday news anchor in August 2018 and has now been a fixture on the morning show for nearly eight years.

Melvin’s increasingly prominent role has made him one of the network’s most recognizable faces, but insiders claim the heavier workload is becoming a sticking point behind the scenes.

Whether NBC will agree to lighten Melvin’s schedule, boost his compensation or make other changes remains unclear. For now, however, sources say the message from Melvin is unmistakable: If the network wants him to keep doing more, he expects to be compensated accordingly.
