A lunchtime visit to Golden Corral turned into chaos when a wild brawl erupted between multiple customers — and a woman suddenly died as police rushed to the scene.
The frightening incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Golden Corral on Skibo Road in Fayetteville, North Carolina, about 65 miles southwest of Raleigh.
According to Fayetteville police, several people became involved in a physical altercation inside the busy restaurant.
“Preliminary findings indicate that a physical altercation involving multiple individuals occurred inside the establishment,” police said.
Authorities said investigators have not yet determined whether any gunshots were fired during the disturbance.
When officers arrived, they discovered an adult woman unresponsive inside the restaurant.
Police immediately began performing life-saving measures before the woman was rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was later pronounced dead.
In an initial update, investigators said the woman appeared to have suffered a medical emergency that was unrelated to the brawl.
However, officials said the Chief Medical Examiner is now working to determine her official cause and manner of death.
The woman’s identity has not been publicly released.
Police are also trying to piece together exactly what happened before and during the restaurant melee.
“Detectives are actively working to establish the sequence of events,” authorities said. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation.”
Police have not revealed what sparked the fighting, and no arrests were announced in connection with the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
