Woman Nearly Kidnapped in Broad Daylight in Terrifying Video

A peaceful afternoon in one of Hawaii’s most desirable coastal neighborhoods turned into a terrifying ordeal when a stranger allegedly grabbed a young woman and attempted to carry her into his truck, setting off a desperate rescue effort that was captured on surveillance video.

The frightening encounter unfolded around noon Monday, October 26, at the Kainalu condominium complex near Diamond Head on the island of Oahu, where a 24-year-old woman was walking alongside her 77-year-old friend.

According to police and witness accounts, a 23-year-old man followed the women into an underground parking garage before suddenly confronting them. Surveillance footage shows the suspect pursuing the younger woman before grabbing her, lifting her off the ground and carrying her toward his waiting truck.

The older woman reportedly tried to intervene but was struck in the face with an elbow as the confrontation escalated. She could only watch in horror as her friend struggled to escape the stranger’s grip.

“He looked like a monster,” the 77-year-old later told Hawaii News Now, recalling the fear she experienced as the man approached them.

Despite the frightening situation, the younger woman refused to give up. Her friend recalled that she repeatedly pleaded with the suspect to reconsider what he was doing while desperately trying to free herself.

The older woman, meanwhile, began screaming for help, hoping someone nearby would hear the commotion before the attacker could drive away.

Fortunately, her cries reached several neighbors, who quickly realized something was terribly wrong.

Resident Beverly Louis spotted the man carrying the struggling woman toward the back of his truck and immediately began shouting for him to release her. Another neighbor, Mike Finkelstein, yelled that police had been called and warned the suspect that people were coming to intervene.

Scott Morison, who lived nearby, also rushed toward the vehicle and attempted to block the passenger side with his own body. He later told KHON2 that the young woman was desperately kicking and struggling as the man held her.

As more residents converged on the scene, the suspect finally released the woman, allowing her to escape before he climbed into his truck.

Surveillance footage captured the vehicle rapidly reversing down Coconut Avenue as the man fled the neighborhood, leaving witnesses shaken by what they had just seen.

But the bizarre incident was far from over.

Approximately three hours later, Honolulu police received reports of a suspicious man matching the suspect’s description running naked near 22nd Avenue and Diamond Head Road.

Officers located the man and arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping and second-degree assault. Authorities had not publicly established a motive for the alleged attack, and formal charges were still pending in the latest local reporting.

The two women were reportedly physically okay following the encounter, but the emotional impact has been far more difficult to shake.

The 77-year-old resident said both she and her younger friend have experienced nightmares since the incident, while neighbors remain unsettled by the brazen attempted abduction in the middle of the day.

For the residents who rushed to help, the outcome could have been very different had nobody responded to the women’s screams.

What began as an ordinary afternoon near Hawaii’s scenic Diamond Head coastline ended with a young woman escaping a suspected kidnapper, a neighborhood coming together in seconds and a disturbing reminder of how quickly an everyday situation can turn dangerous.
