Girl Run Over and Dragged by Mack Truck in Philadelphia (Video)

A teenage girl in Philadelphia somehow walked away with only minor injuries after she was run over and dragged beneath a massive Mack truck in a terrifying incident caught on surveillance video.

The close call happened Friday afternoon, Sept. 11, near Summerdale Avenue and Marcella Street in Northeast Philadelphia, shortly after school had let out. Local reports say the girl was walking home with a backpack and looking down at her cellphone as she crossed in front of a stopped truck.

Seconds later, the truck began moving.

Surveillance footage from nearby Ivonne Jewelry shows the girl being pushed forward by the vehicle before disappearing underneath it.

Workers and residents nearby immediately realized what was happening and rushed toward the truck, yelling for the driver to stop.

Bladimir Gomera, an employee at the jewelry store, said he and his cousin, store owner Ivonne Roson, happened to be outside when they witnessed the horrifying scene unfold.

The girl became trapped beneath the truck, with witnesses saying her hair had to be freed from near one of the wheels before she could be pulled out.

Despite the terrifying impact, witnesses said she suffered only a few scrapes and was able to stand up and walk away.

“She had no bruises, no blood, she was okay,” Gomera told NBC10.

Roson said the girl appeared shaken and quiet after the ordeal but did not seem seriously hurt.

Even more remarkably, witnesses said the girl still had her cellphone in her hand after being pulled from underneath the truck.

The girl has not been publicly identified. Witnesses estimated she was between 14 and 16 years old.

There has also been some confusion over whether police responded immediately.

NBC10 reported that police were not called to the scene at the time, while CBS Philadelphia later said officers indicated everyone involved had already left by the time police arrived.

The truck driver reportedly returned to the jewelry store the following day.

Roson said the driver came back extremely nervous and thanked the people who had helped the girl.

“He came in here the next day to say thank you, and he was very nervous,” Roson told NBC10.

Workers said the driver told them he later lost his job over the incident. The driver declined to speak publicly about what happened.

The surveillance footage has since spread widely online, with viewers stunned that the girl managed to escape what could easily have been a fatal accident.

Witnesses who saw it happen described her survival as nothing short of remarkable.

The girl’s exact medical condition has not been publicly released, but multiple witnesses said she was able to leave the scene under her own power with no obvious serious injuries.
