Newly released FBI records have uncovered a troubling allegation against Hunter Biden, revealing that a woman accused former President Joe Biden’s son of threatening her during a dispute involving money and his infamous laptop.
The allegation surfaced in federal court documents made public Friday, October 23, offering another look at what FBI officials knew about Hunter Biden as controversy surrounding his personal life and business dealings dominated headlines during the 2020 presidential election.
According to a sworn FBI statement, an unidentified woman in Los Angeles contacted federal authorities on December 17, 2020, reporting that Biden had sent her a text message she interpreted as a threat.
“Don’t forget that I know where you are, you have an ankle bracelet and that the laptop was recording,” Biden allegedly wrote.
The woman, described in the records as an escort, claimed the message referred to a private encounter involving Biden and his laptop. She also described a financial dispute, alleging that Biden had failed to pay her for sexual services and subsequently pressured her to return money.
The documents do not establish when the alleged message was sent or whether any recording actually existed. However, they reveal that FBI investigators examined at least part of the woman’s complaint.
In a December 21, 2020, email, an FBI official informed senior bureau official Nikki Floris that investigators had verified the financial transaction associated with the woman’s report. The records do not indicate that investigators independently confirmed the alleged threat.
What makes the revelation particularly significant is how the information resurfaced nearly six years later.
The woman’s complaint was included in newly unsealed court records connected to criminal charges against two former senior FBI officials accused of misleading Congress about their involvement in investigations into Hunter Biden.
Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, were charged Friday with making false statements to congressional investigators during separate interviews in 2023.
Both previously held leadership positions in the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force, which was responsible for investigating potential foreign interference in American elections.
During her congressional testimony, Floris denied having personal discussions about Hunter Biden investigations while serving on the task force.
But prosecutors say internal FBI communications tell a different story.
The newly released documents show that Floris received information about the woman’s complaint in December 2020 and forwarded it to another bureau employee with a message indicating they had previously discussed the matter.
Additional records describe conversations, briefings and communications involving Floris and other FBI personnel about Hunter Biden’s laptop and related investigations.
Benavides faces separate allegations that he misled lawmakers about when he learned the FBI possessed Hunter Biden’s laptop. Prosecutors say he discussed the computer with colleagues before the 2020 election, contradicting his later testimony that he learned about the matter through Wikipedia in 2023.
The disclosures are likely to renew Republican scrutiny of the FBI’s handling of politically sensitive investigations during the 2020 presidential campaign, particularly questions about what senior officials knew and how information was shared within the bureau.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro defended the new charges, arguing that federal law enforcement officials must be held accountable if they mislead Congress.
Attorneys for Floris have strongly rejected the accusations, calling the prosecution politically motivated. Both former officials are presumed innocent, and the charges against them do not establish wrongdoing by Hunter Biden in connection with the woman’s complaint.
The latest revelations also reopen a controversial chapter in Hunter Biden’s legal history.
In June 2024, a federal jury convicted him of three felony firearm offenses related to his purchase of a handgun while illegally using drugs. Three months later, he pleaded guilty to nine federal tax offenses involving millions of dollars in income and at least $1.4 million in unpaid taxes.
Despite previously promising not to intervene in his son’s legal troubles, President Joe Biden issued Hunter a sweeping presidential pardon on December 1, 2024, shortly before leaving the White House.
The pardon ended the federal criminal cases against Hunter Biden, but it did not end the political controversy surrounding the investigations.
Now, with previously undisclosed FBI communications entering the public record and two former senior officials facing criminal charges, questions about the bureau’s handling of the Hunter Biden investigations are once again drawing national attention.
The next major development will come as prosecutors attempt to establish that the former FBI officials knowingly misled Congress, potentially revealing even more about how the bureau handled one of the most politically contentious investigations of the 2020 election era.
