A terrifying attempted robbery at a Maryland gas station turned violent in an instant when a woman allegedly pulled a gun on a clerk and opened fire, leaving the employee seriously wounded and police scrambling to track her down.
Howard County Police have released disturbing surveillance footage showing the suspect inside the station during the brazen attack, which investigators say unfolded Friday evening at a Shell gas station in Columbia. The video has no audio, but it shows the woman holding a firearm, appearing to speak to the clerk, and then firing.
The shooting happened around 7:43 p.m. on April 17 at the Shell station in the 7200 block of Cradlerock Way, according to police. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found that an adult male employee had been shot during what detectives believe was an attempted robbery.
The victim was rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries. As of the latest update from police on Monday, he remained in serious condition.
Investigators say the suspect fled after the shooting, and no other injuries were reported.
In an effort to identify and capture the woman, Howard County Police released the surveillance footage and increased the reward for information leading to her arrest. Authorities had previously offered up to $1,000, but that amount has now been raised to $2,500.
The shocking footage has added fresh urgency to the manhunt as police work to determine exactly what led up to the shooting and where the suspect went after fleeing the scene.
By Tuesday, the department had not released any additional details about the suspect or the investigation.
