A federal employee has been sidelined after mocking President Trump’s order to honor Charlie Kirk, the slain conservative leader whose assassination has shaken the nation.
The Department of Homeland Security, led by Secretary Kristi Noem, confirmed that FEMA data analyst Gavin Sylvia has been placed on administrative leave. His offense? Posting on Instagram that flying the American flag at half-staff for Kirk was honoring a “racist homophobe misogynist.”
“This employee’s words are revolting and unconscionable,” a FEMA spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “Celebrating the death of a fellow American is appalling, unacceptable, and sickening.”
Senior DHS officials said Sylvia’s comments were “disgraceful” and made clear he has “no place in the federal government.”
President Donald J. Trump directed flags to fly at half-staff after Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday while speaking at a Turning Point USA event in Utah. Trump praised the 31-year-old activist as “a fearless voice for freedom, faith, and the future of America’s youth.”
Kirk, who founded TPUSA in 2012, had become one of the most influential conservative organizers of his generation. His death was described by Pastor Rob McCoy on Fox’s The Ingraham Angle as “a devastating loss — Charlie lived like truth was an orphan, and he was always its defender.”
Federal agencies are now monitoring employee social media activity after a wave of anti-Kirk posts appeared online. The Coast Guard issued a statement warning that mocking or endorsing the murder of Charlie Kirk is “contrary to our core values.”
Sean Parnell, Assistant to the Secretary of War, was blunt: “It is unacceptable for military personnel or civilians to celebrate or mock the assassination of a fellow American. Zero tolerance.”
One senior Trump administration official told Fox News Digital, “Imagine being so unbelievably useless in life that your response to the death of a man who reshaped the American political landscape through Christ and conviction is to mock his assassination. These are weak people, with weak minds, saying weak things.”
On September 11, Charlie Kirk’s casket was carried from Air Force Two at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Crowds gathered in silence to pay their respects.
The FBI and local law enforcement are still hunting the suspect, who remains on the loose. Authorities recently collected home surveillance footage that may show the killer fleeing the scene.
Kirk leaves behind his wife and two young children. His assassination has reignited debates about political violence in America, with many pointing to his own chilling warning months ago: “Assassination culture is spreading on the Left.”
