Tensions erupted on Capitol Hill as Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., fiercely criticized the Republican-led “Dismantle DEI Act,” which seeks to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in federal agencies.
The legislation, introduced by Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, aims to dismantle DEI offices, end race-based policies for contractors, and prevent federal funds from promoting “divisive ideologies.”
Pressley denounced the bill as an “utter disgrace” during a House Oversight Committee hearing.
She accused Republicans of distorting history and using Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words to justify the legislation. “Please keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s name out of your mouths,” she said, calling their invocation of his legacy a “perversion.”
Cloud defended the bill, arguing that DEI undermines hard-won civil rights progress. “Americans fought tirelessly to right the wrongs of discrimination,” he said, emphasizing that DEI policies fuel division rather than unity.
Pressley countered with historical examples, highlighting systemic racism, from the Constitution’s Three-Fifths Compromise to redlining and GI Bill inequities.
She declared, “Racism is real,” and called the bill inconsistent, noting provisions that both ban and discuss racism.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, added her voice, challenging Republican narratives. “There has been no oppression for the White man in this country,” she said, contrasting historical atrocities against minorities with claims of “oppression” in DEI policies.
Despite heated opposition, the bill passed the committee 23-17, signaling intensified debates over race and governance in the months ahead.

And that last comment was not against community standards, what the hell. The left let one in just to tick people off….and yes I’m happy the bill passed because the program actually promotes racism, people should get contracts on their ability’s not what color they are or what gender they claim to be, or whatever other mental issues they have.
Most people with a modicum of knowledge and intelligence can see the use of DEI in any hiring practice makes absolutely sure the best candidate for the job has absolutely no shot at ever getting he job!
I am sorry but we have to hire a woman to fill the vacancy.
Men (males and transmales) need not apply!
Hmmmmmm?
But you can not discriminate! Right?
We need to hire a woman of color!
No, we need to hire a lesbian woman of color.
No, we need to hire a woman, a trans male lesbian woman of color with tattoos.
No, we need to hire a transmale lesbian woman of color with tattoos who is a dwarf from Ireland to fill the position.
WTF?
Does anyone else feel the same way?
DEI is the absolute worst thing to come into play in any hiring decisions!
The Federal Givernnent stance:
Our goal acccording to our employment people and their guidelines is that: we try to hire only the best and brightest people to fill open positions!
Not anymore you don’t!
You need to hire what the quota tells you need to hire!
DEI is Discrimination personified
DEI needs to be scrapped!
Does she not know history many whites were oppressed by the elect whites they were sharecroppers cheated by the well to do. Mountain people were look down on by everyone. Read your American history and stop with the racist rhetoric.
A pox on that member!
So sad
According to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s discourse, Ms. Pressley and he would have disagreed about the bill. What MLK, Jr. demonstrated against was actual discrimination, Ms. Pressley! He didn’t promote special privileges or a hand-out based on skin color.
