House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced that no additional funding for Ukraine will be considered until President-elect Donald Trump assumes office in January. Johnson asserted that Trump’s presidency will fundamentally shift the dynamics of the Russia-Ukraine war, and major decisions should await his direction.
“As I said weeks before the election, Donald Trump’s victory changes the game in the Russian war on Ukraine, and we’re already seeing that happen,” Johnson declared at a House Republican leadership press conference. “It’s not Joe Biden’s place to make this decision now. We have a newly elected president, and we’ll take direction from the new commander-in-chief.”
The Biden administration has requested $8 billion in security aid for Ukraine, which includes military equipment and training. Additionally, the Department of Defense has sought $16 billion for enhanced support. Despite these requests, Johnson made it clear that no funding discussions will occur under Biden.
Trump’s Plans for Peace
President-elect Trump has expressed his intention to end the war before even taking office. Speaking in September, Trump said, “I want to get Russia to settle with Ukraine and stop the destruction — millions of lives lost, cities reduced to rubble. This has to end.” Trump has frequently criticized Biden’s foreign policy, blaming it for the conflict’s escalation. “Russia would’ve never gone into Ukraine if I were in charge. They saw weakness and acted,” Trump said.
Escalation Under Biden
Recent reports reveal an intensification of the conflict as Biden authorized Ukraine to use long-range U.S. weapons for strikes on Russian soil. This decision followed warnings from Russian President Vladimir Putin about potential nuclear retaliation. Additionally, North Korea has reportedly sent 10,000 troops to support Russia, heightening global tensions.
Zelensky’s Perspective
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently proposed that a NATO-backed security guarantee could end the “hot war” with Russia. However, his demand for the recovery of Russian-controlled territories through diplomacy is unlikely to gain Moscow’s approval.
As Biden’s administration winds down, his actions have set the stage for heightened tensions, leaving President-elect Trump with a complex and dangerous geopolitical challenge. Johnson’s remarks underscore the Republican strategy to align future aid decisions with Trump’s vision, signaling a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy.

THATS GREAT NEWS
It\’s sad that help to Ukraine has been shut down. Who is going to help them until Trump\’s inauguration at the end of January? Putin\’s hand is free. He does whatever he wants to do. This is not a smart decision. When you do something, think two steps ahead of the result. Sincerely, lyg9001@gmail.com
