Trump Mentions ‘Jail’ For Liz Cheney And J6 Committee

In a wide-ranging interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, President-elect Donald Trump laid out a bold vision for his upcoming administration, reaffirming plans to pardon individuals convicted for their roles in the January 6 Capitol riot. Trump also lashed out at members of the House committee that investigated the event, suggesting they should face legal consequences.

“Honestly, they should go to jail,” Trump stated when pressed by NBC anchor Kristen Welker. When asked directly about former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney, Trump clarified, “For what they did. They’ll have to look at that, but I’m going to focus on what matters—drill, baby, drill.”

Executive Action and Immigration Plans

Trump also signaled potential executive action to terminate “birthright citizenship,” a policy granting U.S. citizenship to individuals born on American soil, regardless of their parents’ immigration status. Critics have long questioned the constitutionality of such a move. “We’ll likely face legal challenges,” Trump admitted but maintained his commitment to tackling the issue.

On mass deportations, Trump was blunt: “It’s tough, but it’s necessary. People who came here illegally need to leave. We must have rules and laws.” He emphasized a fairer immigration process for those “waiting in line for years to enter legally.”

Regarding “Dreamers,” undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, Trump expressed a willingness to find common ground, noting, “We want to work something out.”

Addressing Biden and Weaponization Allegations

Welker raised the issue of Trump’s stance toward President Joe Biden, referencing past statements hinting at retribution. Trump downplayed such intentions, stating, “Retribution will be through success. I’m focused on making this country great again.”

However, he criticized what he called the “weaponization” of government institutions against him, pointing to his nominees for attorney general and FBI director, Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, as key decision-makers in any future investigations.

Trade Policy and Tariffs

Trump defended his support for mass tariffs, dismissing concerns about potential cost increases for consumers. “I can’t guarantee everything, but pre-COVID, we had the greatest economy in history. Tariffs worked. We took in billions from China and had no inflation,” he argued.

Critics point out that tariffs have long been a bipartisan tool, with the Biden administration recently increasing tariffs on Chinese goods by up to 50%.
