Mississippi Democrat Proposes Shocking ‘Erection Law’ Targeting Men

In a move that’s outraged many Mississippians, Democratic State Senator Bradford Blackmon has introduced a controversial bill titled the “Contraception Begins at Erection Act.” The proposal would criminalize any man who “discharges genetic material without the intent to fertilize an embryo,” raising alarm among pro-life advocates and conservatives across the state.

The bill, unveiled Monday, would impose fines ranging from $1,000 for a first offense to $10,000 for repeat violations. Exceptions would be made for sperm donation or contraception use—but critics argue the legislation mocks deeply held pro-life values.

A Mockery of Morality

Senator Blackmon, a first-term legislator from a district north of Jackson, has openly admitted the bill is meant to be provocative. In a statement to WLBT, Blackmon said, “People can get up in arms and call it absurd, but I can’t say that bothers me.”

His reasoning? Blackmon claims to be “highlighting” what he sees as an imbalance in reproductive legislation, arguing that men should face the same scrutiny as women.

Conservatives have slammed the bill as a blatant insult to pro-life principles. State Senator Richard Harlan (R), a prominent pro-life advocate, didn’t mince words: “This so-called ‘Erection Act’ is a childish stunt designed to mock those of us who value life. It’s an embarrassment to our state and our values.”

Mississippi’s Pro-Life Stand

Mississippi has been a national leader in protecting the unborn. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, the state enacted one of the nation’s strictest abortion bans, allowing exceptions only in cases of rape or life-threatening danger to the mother.

“Mississippi stands for life,” said pro-life activist Sarah Ward, founder of Heartbeat Mississippi. “This bill tries to undermine that by equating the destruction of innocent unborn lives with a man’s personal choices. It’s offensive and completely out of line.”

Currently, Mississippi is one of 12 states with total or near-total abortion bans, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. It has also resisted recent efforts by liberal activists to expand access to contraception, a move many see as a Trojan horse for weakening pro-life laws.

Playing Politics with Life

Blackmon’s bill has been widely condemned as a political stunt. Pro-life leaders argue that his proposal trivializes serious moral and ethical issues surrounding life and conception.

“This isn’t about fairness or balance—it’s about making a mockery of laws designed to protect life,” said Rev. Michael Turner, a Jackson-based pastor and vocal pro-life advocate. “Bills like this show how out of touch the Left is with the values of everyday Mississippians.”

Some residents, however, see the bill as nothing more than political theater. “It’s insulting,” said Linda Grayson, a retired teacher from Tupelo. “They’re playing games while real families are struggling with serious issues.”

The Bigger Picture

While the bill is almost certain to fail in Mississippi’s Republican-dominated legislature, its introduction underscores the ongoing cultural divide over reproductive rights. Pro-life advocates say the bill is yet another attempt by the Left to undermine their movement through ridicule and distraction.

“Senator Blackmon wants to shift the conversation away from life and toward absurdity,” said Senator Harlan. “But we won’t be distracted. Mississippi will remain a state that stands for the sanctity of life.”

As the debate continues, one thing is clear: conservatives in Mississippi are ready to fight back against what they see as attacks on their values—and their commitment to protecting the unborn.

  1. I ask this question all the time. Why are condoms so confusing for both men and women? It takes 2 to tango! And there’s so many other simple ways to prevent unwanted pregnancy! Anyone ever heard of pulling out? I mean this is just the stupidest conversation. Here we are in 2025 and people still don’t understand how to not get pregnant…..

  2. This guy’s nothing but a crackpot who wants to get his name in the headlines. The only thing he’ll represent during his term in office is himself. He’s just another Al Sharpton wanna-be.
