Meghan Markle ‘Turning Conservative’ in Political U-Turn?

After years of aligning herself with Hollywood elites and left-wing activism, Meghan Markle appears to be making an unexpected shift. With Donald Trump back in the White House, the Duchess of Sussex is toning down her once-radical image, signaling what some see as a strategic retreat from progressive politics.

For nearly a decade, Markle made her political stance clear. She famously called Trump “divisive” and “misogynistic” during the 2016 campaign, aligning herself with feminist causes and social justice movements. But with Trump’s return to power, she is suddenly stepping away from controversy and presenting a far different image—one that embraces traditional domesticity and a picture-perfect California lifestyle.

A Calculated Rebrand?

Her latest Netflix project, With Love, Meghan, is a sharp departure from her past activism. The show, set to premiere next week, paints Markle as a homemaker rather than a firebrand. Trailers depict her baking, arranging flowers, and playing the role of the gracious host—activities more in line with 1950s ideals than the modern feminist she once claimed to be. Even her husband, Prince Harry, makes an appearance, subtly reinforcing the image of a devoted wife and mother rather than a crusading activist.

Marketing expert Pauline MacLaran of Royal Holloway University suggests this shift is no accident. “She’s tried a few different approaches—activism, podcasting, even Hollywood deals—but none have stuck. Now, she’s embracing a more conservative, traditional role,” MacLaran noted.

Critics argue that Markle’s latest move is about self-preservation rather than personal growth. With political tides shifting and progressive Hollywood losing some of its influence under Trump’s administration, Markle may be hedging her bets to stay relevant. “She’s pivoting because she has no choice,” said Finola Kerrigan, a marketing professor at the University of Birmingham. “When the political climate was more liberal, she could be outspoken. Now, things have changed.”

Financial and Social Pressures Mount

The Sussexes’ lavish Montecito lifestyle isn’t cheap. Their $14 million mansion comes with massive upkeep costs, and the couple faces financial uncertainty after their Spotify deal collapsed. Reports indicate that they may struggle to sell the property at a profit, as California’s luxury housing market has cooled. Additionally, local residents have voiced irritation over Markle’s preference for mingling with Hollywood elites rather than engaging with the community.

Adding to their troubles, British royal expert Angela Levin suggests that the Duchess may be realizing the limitations of her activism. “She wanted to be a political influencer, but without the credibility or the patience to build a serious career,” Levin remarked. “Now, she’s backpedaling because she miscalculated her own influence.”

A Contradiction Within the Sussex Household

While Markle appears to be softening her approach, Prince Harry seems to be doubling down on his political critiques. Speaking at the Upfronts Summit in Los Angeles, he took an apparent swipe at Trump, warning of “a sickness in leadership” and condemning “power and control” in politics and business. The timing was particularly noteworthy—just hours before, King Charles had personally invited President Trump to Windsor Castle, signaling a stark contrast between the Royal Family’s diplomatic approach and Harry’s continued defiance.

Conservative commentator Richard Fitzwilliams noted the contradiction. “If Meghan is truly trying to rehabilitate her image under Trump’s presidency, she may want to start by telling her husband to keep quiet,” he quipped. “Americans have no patience for hypocrites.”

A Lesson in Humility?

For years, Meghan Markle positioned herself as a cultural disruptor, using her royal title to promote progressive causes. But with Trump’s return, the reality of political pushback may finally be setting in. Whether this transformation is genuine or merely a calculated PR move remains to be seen.

One thing is clear: if Markle is truly reinventing herself, it’s not out of personal conviction—it’s out of necessity.

  1. Could be perhaps the girl simply grew up and realized she has been wrong in her thinking ?

  2. First of Harry is not a citizen of the United States. He has no business bashing President Trump! He isn’t the Prince of America and his wife isn’t a Princess! We don’t have a King and Queen or Prince and Princess in the U.S. Harry should go home and stay out of U.S. business!

  3. It seems to me that Meghan and Harry miscalculated their importance in both the UK and America. Meghan most likely thought that by marrying an English Prince she would become a Princess. I would think that before any vows were made, Harry would have explained what their roles would be and what would be expected of them. Either Meghan didn’t believe him, or she thought she could change English laws and traditions. It’s a shame really, because Harry was one of the most popular Royals before he got involved with Meghan. He had a carrier in the Army and could have done so much for his country and his family. Now, as my mother would say, “They’ve made their bed, now they have to lay in it.”
