Michigan Hospital Worker Shoots Co-Worker in a ‘Targeted Attack’

Chaos erupted at a Michigan hospital Thursday morning when a hospital worker opened fire on a colleague in what police have called a “targeted attack.” The shooting took place in the parking garage of Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, forcing the facility into lockdown as officers swarmed the scene.

The gunman, who remains unidentified, fired at least five rounds just after 7 a.m., striking a 25-year-old male victim twice in the arm. One of the bullets also hit the victim’s vehicle. The injured man, though wounded, managed to identify his attacker, providing crucial information to law enforcement.

Swift Police Response and Suspect’s Capture

Police launched an intensive manhunt, locking down both the hospital and several local schools as a precaution. After nearly three hours on the run, the suspect was arrested at approximately 9:45 a.m., bringing an end to the tense search.

Lt. Ben Hancock of the Troy Police Department emphasized the seriousness of the situation.

“This was not a random act of violence. This was a deliberate attack between two hospital employees,” Hancock told reporters.

Authorities have yet to disclose the nature of the relationship between the shooter and victim or their roles within the hospital.

Panic and Hospital Lockdown

The shooting sent shockwaves through the medical center, where staff received an active shooter alert instructing them to follow the “run, hide, fight” protocol. Patients, doctors, and nurses were left sheltering in place as police cleared the area.

“We want everyone to know—we are here. We are doing everything possible to keep you safe,” Hancock reassured hospital staff and the community.

Meanwhile, local schools were placed on soft lockdowns, a move authorities deemed necessary to prevent any potential spillover danger.

Concerns Over Workplace Violence

This latest attack raises serious concerns about security and workplace violence, especially in sensitive environments like hospitals. While crime surges in Democrat-run cities dominate headlines, even suburban areas like Troy—considered one of Michigan’s safest cities—are not immune to targeted violence.

The victim is in stable condition and continues to receive treatment at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital. Police have not yet announced formal charges, but sources indicate the suspect could face multiple felonies, including attempted murder and illegal firearm possession.
