President Trump Sparks Outrage with Lindsey Graham Endorsement

Conservatives are erupting over President Donald Trump’s surprise endorsement of South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, calling the move a betrayal to the MAGA base and a slap in the face to America First voters.

Over the weekend, Trump took to Truth Social to throw his full support behind Graham’s 2026 re-election bid, declaring the long-time senator has his “Complete and Total Endorsement” and assuring followers that Graham “WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN.”

The reaction was swift — and furious.

“I am not with Trump at all with this one,” conservative influencer Shawn Farash wrote on X. “Not one bit.”

Former National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, once one of Trump’s earliest defenders, minced no words. “Not someone I can get behind,” Flynn said. “I’ll go to the gates with you but I won’t take one step forward with him.”

Massie Fires Back, Calls Graham a Clone of Cheney

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., a top conservative in the House Freedom Caucus, slammed the endorsement in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“Senator Graham is objectively the ideological twin of Liz Cheney,” Massie said.

Graham’s team wasted no time firing back. “Rep. Massie has become the most reliable vote for Democrats on critical issues opposing President Trump’s agenda,” said campaign manager Mark Knoop. He added that Graham “shares President Trump’s frustration” with the Kentucky congressman.

Trump’s War with His Own Base?

This isn’t the first time Trump has gone after hardline conservatives who buck his wishes. Just weeks ago, he threatened to lead a primary challenge against Massie for opposing a government funding deal. “He reminds me of Liz Chaney [sic],” Trump posted on Truth Social, referencing the former Wyoming congresswoman who was soundly defeated after turning on Trump.

In fact, Trump has repeatedly criticized conservative lawmakers like Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, and Rep. Bob Good, R-Va., accusing them of obstructing key victories to score headlines.

“Cheap publicity,” Trump wrote of Roy last year, after the Texan resisted raising the debt ceiling without deep spending cuts.

The MAGA Base Is Not Amused

Townhall columnist Scott Morefield put it bluntly: “Trump endorsing Lindsey Graham in a state where an eggplant with an R beside their name would win… just shows that while we should appreciate how he’s running the country, his endorsements should be taken with a heavy grain of salt.”

Graham is widely known in conservative circles for his hawkish foreign policy and past willingness to reach across the aisle. For many in the MAGA movement, he’s a relic of the old GOP.

“He’s the embodiment of everything we were supposed to leave behind,” said radio host Chad Prather. “Just say NO to Lindsey Graham.”

Boos in the Backyard

Even in his home state, Graham has struggled to win over the MAGA faithful. In 2023, he was booed at a Trump rally in South Carolina — a sign that grassroots conservatives haven’t forgotten his past support for endless wars and establishment politics.

Graham, who has served in the Senate for over 20 years, won his 2020 primary with more than 67% of the vote. But the political winds have shifted.

Pro-Life Allies Step In

Despite the backlash, Graham is still banking on support from conservative organizations. A press conference scheduled for Monday will feature pro-life groups announcing their official endorsement of the senator.

“There’s no bigger endorsement than President Trump’s,” said Knoop. “Senator Graham is honored to have his support. He has earned it.”

Graham echoed the sentiment in a video posted to X: “President Trump is on team Graham,” the narrator proclaims, calling him “a conservative leader, trusted by Trump, endorsed by Trump.”

The Real Question: Will the Voters Follow?

Trump may be betting that his endorsement still holds unmatched weight in GOP primaries — but some voters are no longer buying the package deal.

“Trump’s great, but Lindsey Graham is a no-go,” said one Truth Social user. “If this is what loyalty means now, count me out.”

With two years until the 2026 South Carolina primary, the battle lines are already being drawn. And this time, it may be Trump vs. Trump’s own base.
