Killer’s Chilling Words After Stabbing Teen Football Star Revealed

A Texas community is reeling after a rising high school football star was stabbed to death at a school track meet — and left to die in his twin brother’s arms — by a teen suspect who shockingly told police, “I did it.”

The victim, Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old junior and standout athlete at Memorial High School outside Dallas, was reportedly killed in under 30 seconds during what witnesses say began as a minor confrontation over shelter from the rain.

The alleged killer, Karmelo Anthony, also 17, is accused of pulling a knife and driving it into Metcalf’s chest — piercing his heart — after refusing to move from a tent that belonged to another school’s team.

“I’m not alleged, I did it,” Anthony told police as he was being arrested at Kuykendall Stadium, according to an arrest warrant obtained by local media. “I was protecting myself,” he added — after running from the scene.

It was a rainy Wednesday morning when Anthony reportedly took cover under a pop-up tent at the stadium. That’s when Metcalf — who had never met Anthony before — approached and asked him to leave.

When Anthony refused, witnesses say Metcalf tried to physically move him. That’s when Anthony reached into his backpack.

“Touch me and see what happens,” he warned, according to police documents.

Seconds later, the knife came out. One stab. One wound. Straight to the heart.

Anthony fled but was quickly apprehended. As officers cuffed him, he asked a chilling question: “Is he gonna be OK?”

By then, it was far too late.

Austin collapsed in front of dozens of students and coaches — but it was his twin brother, Hunter, who held him in his final moments.

“It really was under 30 seconds, this altercation,” Hunter told WFAA, holding back tears. “My brother stepped in and said, ‘You need to move.’ [Anthony] said, ‘Make me move.’ All of the sudden, he grabbed his backpack… and that was it.”

Family photos show Austin smiling beside his father, Jeff Metcalf — proud, strong, full of promise. That promise was cut short in a moment of violence many say never should’ve happened.

Conservatives across Texas are asking tough questions: Why was a student able to bring a weapon onto school property? Where was the security? And how have we let discipline break down this far?

“This is a symptom of a broken system,” said one Frisco parent who attended the meet. “Kids think there are no consequences anymore.”

Karmelo Anthony, who remains in custody, is expected to face serious charges. The district has not yet commented on how the suspect was allowed onto the property or whether metal detectors were in place.

A GoFundMe for the Metcalf family has since raised thousands. Friends describe Austin as “a respectful, disciplined young man” who dreamed of playing college football. His death has sent shockwaves through the community.

“We raised our boys to be strong and honorable,” father Jeff Metcalf wrote. “Austin died standing up for what was right.”

This wasn’t just a tragedy. It was a failure — of our schools, our safety, and our culture. And it cost an American family their son.

If you believe it’s time to restore law, order, and accountability in our schools, don’t stay silent.

  1. WOW, this is another instance where a person feels entitled to tell someone else to do something, then they commit assault, then pay the consequences. If shelter was needed why tell someone to move then attempt to forcibly remove the person from the shelter. Where is the compassion from the victim ???
