ABC Anchor Admits Biden Interview was ‘Heartbreaking Up Close’

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos — once a Clinton White House insider and long considered a loyal Democrat — privately admitted that interviewing Joe Biden after his now-infamous 2024 debate with Donald Trump was nothing short of “heartbreaking up close.”

That revelation, detailed in a bombshell new book titled “Uncharted: How Trump Beat Biden, Harris, and the Odds in the Wildest Campaign in History” by political author Chris Whipple, confirms what millions of Americans already suspected: Biden wasn’t just tired — he was unraveling.

Whipple recounts a Democratic Party on the brink, scrambling after Biden’s disastrous debate performance on June 27. Whispers of replacing him with another nominee turned into open panic. To plug the bleeding, the White House handed Biden over to Stephanopoulos on July 5 for a friendly sit-down — but even that couldn’t save him.

Instead of offering reassurance, the interview raised more alarms.

According to Whipple, Stephanopoulos treated Biden with soft gloves — “like a grandson” — but walked away shaken. When asked later for his thoughts, the ABC anchor didn’t mince words: “Heartbreaking up close.”

That private assessment was just the beginning. Days after the interview aired, TMZ cameras caught Stephanopoulos on the street. When asked point blank if he thought Biden could handle another four years, he gave a simple answer: “I don’t think he can.”

ABC News later tried to distance itself from the statement, calling it Stephanopoulos’ “personal opinion,” but the damage was already done. When even your biggest media allies stop covering for you, the writing is on the wall.

Those weren’t Trump’s words — they came from a former Biden aide, according to Whipple’s reporting. Behind closed doors, insiders described Biden as “hoarse and semi-coherent” during the Stephanopoulos interview. He reportedly seemed unsure whether he had watched his own debate, answering, “I don’t think I did, no.” He also offered baffling lines like, “I’m doing the goodest job I can.”

This wasn’t a momentary lapse. This was a crisis of leadership.

Donald Trump’s confident, commanding debate performance didn’t just energize his base — it exposed Biden’s decline in the harshest light possible. The contrast was undeniable.

Less than three weeks later, on July 21, Biden officially bowed out of the race. The pressure, the scrutiny, and his inability to perform proved too much to spin — even for seasoned Democrats and media pros.

With Biden gone, the Democratic Party is fractured. Kamala Harris stepped in, but doubts linger. Meanwhile, Trump surged ahead, proving once again that leadership means strength, not scripted soundbites.

As whistleblowers come forward and legacy media figures like Stephanopoulos break the silence, one thing is clear: America saw the truth. And it was, in his own words, “heartbreaking up close.”
