A multi-agency search is underway after an inmate managed to escape custody at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport on Sunday morning and vanished aboard a city light rail train.
The fugitive, identified as Sedrick T. Stevenson, was being transported by a contracted agent when he bolted during the check-in process at an airport ticket counter around 11 a.m., according to Port of Seattle Police.
Stevenson, who is wanted on warrants out of Bowling Green, Kentucky, for second-degree escape, broke free from custody and fled toward the airport’s light rail station. Despite attempts to chase him down, the escorting agents lost him in the crowd.
Security footage later confirmed that Stevenson successfully boarded a northbound light rail train. Sound Transit security teams then spotted him exiting at the Capitol Hill station in Seattle, but he’s been off the radar since.
Police say Stevenson was last seen wearing a white shirt, a white zip-up hoodie, and grey pants.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Stevenson’s whereabouts to contact local law enforcement immediately. The investigation remains active as police continue reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing areas along the transit route.
