Hollywood Actor Going Bankrupt Over Shocking Lawsuit?

Kevin Costner’s dreams of riding into the sunset are quickly unraveling as his latest Western epic, Horizon: An American Saga, flops at the box office — and now he’s staring down a brutal lawsuit that could ruin him financially.

The 70-year-old actor and director is in hot water after stuntwoman Devyn LaBella filed a shocking lawsuit accusing him and his production of filming an “unscripted, unscheduled rape scene” without proper warning or consent. LaBella, who worked as a stunt double for actress Ella Hunt, claims she was subjected to a violent simulated assault on set — something she says was never discussed or agreed upon in advance.

The lawsuit, filed in May 2023, alleges that Costner ordered another actor to climb on top of her and pull up her skirt during what was supposed to be a non-intimate scene. According to SAG rules, performers must be given at least 48 hours’ notice before any changes involving nudity or sexual content — a rule LaBella says was completely ignored.

She says the traumatic experience left her with permanent emotional scars. “This experience has ignited in me a lifelong mission to be the advocate I once needed,” she stated, calling out the power imbalance she says made her feel helpless on set.

Costner’s legal team has pushed back hard, calling the allegations “completely without merit.” But the damage may already be done — at least to his bank account.

The actor reportedly poured $38 million of his own money into Horizon, banking on its success. Investors helped foot the rest of the bill, but the film crashed and burned, dragging Costner’s finances down with it. One insider described the project as “an epic failure,” saying, “He’s still picking himself up off the floor.”

Now, those same investors are demanding answers — and possibly reimbursement — as the lawsuit threatens to drive the situation from bad to catastrophic.

And just when it seemed things couldn’t get worse, Costner is still recovering from a messy divorce. His 18-year marriage to Christine Baumgartner ended in 2024, and though he dodged her original demand for $250,000 a month in child support, he still pays over $60,000 monthly for their three kids. To make matters even more painful, Baumgartner is now engaged to one of Costner’s former friends, financier Josh Connor.

“Even though Kevin got off comparatively lightly, he’ll be shelling out child support for years to come,” said a source close to the actor. “He’s morose and panicked over what this new development means.”

With his personal and professional life both in freefall, insiders say the once-mighty star is grappling with the reality that his lavish lifestyle may no longer be sustainable.

“It’s no secret he’s been having money woes for a while before this lawsuit dropped on him,” the insider added. “He’ll have to downsize a lot more on his lavish life from now on.”
