2 Killed in Shooting Outside Wedding Reception

Two people are dead after a late-night drive-by shooting outside a crowded banquet hall in Fremont, California, police confirmed.

The Fremont Police Department said the shooting happened around 11:12 p.m. Friday, September 5, in the parking lot of the Royal Palace Banquet Hall on Stevenson Boulevard, where a wedding reception was underway.

“Preliminary investigation indicates a suspect vehicle drove up to the victims in the parking lot and fired multiple shots,” police said in a statement. “This remains a very active and fluid investigation. The suspects in this incident are currently outstanding.”

One victim died at the scene, and another was rushed to a hospital but later died from their injuries. While early reports suggested a possible third victim, authorities later clarified that only two people were shot.

Audio released alongside the police statement captured chilling moments from the aftermath, with a responding officer telling dispatch they could “hear people screaming” and confirming that “two people were down on the floor in front of the hall.”

At the time of the shooting, a wedding reception was reportedly taking place inside the banquet hall, CBS News reported. Witnesses told the outlet that the parking lot was full of guests when gunfire erupted.

Police said there were approximately 100 people inside the hall when the shooting occurred, though no one inside was injured.

The Royal Palace Banquet Hall issued a statement on Instagram offering condolences to the victims’ families while clarifying that the incident was unrelated to their business.

The victims’ identities have not yet been released, and no arrests have been made.
