Just seven days after conservative leader Charlie Kirk was gunned down by a left-wing extremist, Hillary Clinton is under fire for pushing a book that accuses her political opponents—many of them Trump supporters—of being “fascists.”
The former Secretary of State took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday to promote a controversial new book by American Federation of Teachers boss Randi Weingarten titled Why Fascists Fear Teachers. Her post was accompanied by a smiling photo of Weingarten holding the book.
“Congratulations to my friend @rweingarten,” Clinton wrote. “From banning books to controlling curriculum, authoritarians go after public education because it’s a cornerstone of democracy… Randi’s new book is a critical read for this moment.”
That “moment,” of course, is one when the country is still in shock after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk—murdered by a gunman who reportedly scrawled the word “fascist” on bullet casings.
The backlash was swift and fierce.
“It’s been ONE WEEK since Charlie Kirk was murdered by a lunatic ranting about ‘fascists,’” wrote GOP strategist Matt Whitlock. “And Hillary Clinton is out here promoting a book labeling conservatives as fascists. This is sick.”
Corey DeAngelis, senior fellow at the American Culture Project, slammed the timing of the post: “Hillary Clinton and Randi Weingarten are going full speed ahead with this disgusting rhetoric right after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Sick people.”
Others saw the move as tone-deaf and dangerous. “They wrote an entire book on a word they don’t even understand,” wrote Andrew Gruel, a city council member from Huntington Beach, California. “This is propaganda disguised as pedagogy.”
Conservative influencer Jack Posobiec posted simply: “Charlie Kirk was murdered exactly one week ago. Here’s Hillary Clinton today.”
In Why Fascists Fear Teachers, Weingarten claims public schools are under siege by right-wing “authoritarians” who seek to “undermine democracy” by targeting teachers and educational content.
“Attacks on schools and teachers have long been a hallmark of fascist regimes,” the book claims. “Fascists fear teachers because they foster an educated and empowered population that can see past propaganda and scare tactics.”
But critics say Weingarten is gaslighting the public while whitewashing her own failures.
“Under Weingarten’s leadership, the AFT kept schools closed, forced kids into remote learning, and pushed divisive content into classrooms,” said education advocate Laura Zorc. “Now she wants to call concerned parents ‘fascists’? Give me a break.”
The Republican National Committee also weighed in, posting: “Democrats Hillary Clinton and Randi Weingarten are still suggesting Republicans are ‘fascists.’ They really can’t help themselves, can they?”
The timing of Clinton’s endorsement is particularly alarming to many given the high-profile political assassination of Charlie Kirk just last week.
The shooter, according to police reports, was deeply radicalized and had openly celebrated left-wing causes online. Investigators said he left behind “politically motivated writings,” including disturbing anti-conservative messages.
One law enforcement source close to the investigation said the killer appeared to believe he was targeting “fascists”—language that eerily mirrors the rhetoric now being amplified by Clinton and Weingarten.
“The political climate is combustible,” said retired FBI agent Robin Dreeke, speaking on Fox News. “When you add gasoline to the fire with this kind of language, it’s only a matter of time before another tragedy occurs.”
Former federal prosecutor Brett Tolman agreed: “We’ve entered a very dangerous era where political violence is being normalized by the left. Whether it’s professors excusing it or politicians ignoring it, the message is clear: violence is OK if it’s against the ‘wrong’ people.”
When reached for comment, Weingarten defended her book, telling Fox News Digital, “If they read it, they’d see it’s a love letter to teachers.”
But for many on the right, that “love letter” reads more like a manifesto.
“This isn’t about protecting teachers,” said parent rights advocate Tiffany Justice. “It’s about labeling anyone who questions leftist curriculum a fascist—and that’s disgusting.”
With President Trump back in the White House and parental rights dominating the national conversation, Clinton and Weingarten’s messaging couldn’t be more out of touch.
“Hillary Clinton wants to brand half the country as fascists while refusing to take any responsibility for the consequences of that rhetoric,” said Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL). “This is exactly the kind of toxic politics that got Charlie Kirk killed.”
And as the country mourns one of its most influential conservative voices, Clinton’s tone-deaf post has only deepened the divide—and poured salt in the wound.
